Atlanta’s Jamaican Museum To Launch “Buy A Brick” Campaign For Cultural Legacy Building

Jamaica is global, and culture is for the people. Despite the Immigration numbers and how different life is overseas, there are those who try to maintain a solid connection with home through a manner of ways. With that said, there have been many individuals and organizations that try to educate, and preserve Jamaica for those who miss home, or have joined into the Jamaican circle through friendships or partnerships. In Atlanta, Georgia, the Jamaican Museum And Cultural Center has been active in sharing the culture, and all things Jamaica. With their latest Initiative “Buy A Brick“, they look to make something more permanent, and build a legacy.

On August 16, the Jamaican Museum And Cultural Center will officially launch their “Buy A Brick” campaign in Atlanta, Georgia. The Initiative will raise funds to assist in building a permanent landmark and cultural space to house and preserve aspects of Jamaican culture, heritage, and pride, with the aim to grow in membership, and legacy-building. With an event held at the APAP Media Group Office in the Stone Mountain area, and online on APAP’s official live stream, participants are invited to assist in sponsoring via purchasing a personalized, engraved brick that will be a part of the physical structure. Starting at 3PM, the event will host a series of live performances, and cultural presentations that will give the audience a taste of what the Museum has in store for the physical landmark.

We invite everyone, whether you were born in Jamaica, have Jamaican roots, or simply love the culture to be part of this historic movement,” said Dr. Apollone Reid, President of the Jamaican Museum and Cultural Center of Atlanta. “This is more than a fundraiser, it’s a statement of pride, unity, and purpose.

To be a part of this Initiative, visit jmccatlanta.com, and start your donation through bricksrus.com/donorsite/jmccatl. Come be a part of History.

Manchester To Offer Unique Cuisine & More With Upcoming Food & Drink Festival

[NEW DATE, Jan. 1, 2025]

2024 has been a year for big events. Whatever your taste was, the Island had an event to accommodate you. While many big events are held in the Island’s capital of Kingston, there have complaints and suggestions to give the other Parishes a chance to host. The Parish of Manchester, where the city life collides with the country life, has been one of the spots that seeks to provide a home to many special events. Next year, it will launch its own Food & Drink Festival.

Organized by Di Village and held at Brooks Park in Mandeville, the “Manchester Food & Drink Festival” aims to introduce a variety of unique cuisine to the public, provide a platform for the upcoming and seasoned Chef, host live entertainment, and amplify the message that the Parish of Manchester is very capable of hosting some of the Island’s best events. With the construction of the Southern Coastal Highway, transportation has been made easier, making the Parish a central hotspot. The Festival was announced earlier this year, and the Organizers have been on the road spreading awareness of the event, inviting Vendors and Sponsors to make their contributions to the event, and adding the finishing touches for the big day. Olivia Coley, a member of the organizing team, has been making connections with various Schools in the Parish, giving students with Culinary ambitions to showcase their talent through a series of events at the Festival. She looks forward to great support from not only Manchester, but the rest of Jamaica, and hopes to make it a yearly family event.

For the foodies, food lovers, and Festival seekers, the “Manchester Food & Drink Festival” welcomes you on Wednesday, January 1 at Brooks Park, Mandeville from 1 P.M. to 10 P.M.. You can pay at the gate to attend, and they range from $2000 for Adults, $1000 for the 10-17 age group, while kids enter free. If you wish to secure tickets, “Dealz N Tings” at Grove Court (Mandeville), and “Water Drops Waterstore” at the Central Dealers Mall (Formerly Caledonia Mall in Mandeville) are the outlets to get them.
