We Take A “Quick Throwback” Look At @Protoje’s “The Feeling”!

Happy Throwback Thursday (and Happy World Cup day)! Today we bring to you another in our “Quick Throwback” series. This time around we go back to the year 2005 with the birthday boy Protoje and check out, “The Feeling“! Off his “Lyrical Overdose” mixtape, “Diggy British” hops on a Hip Hop instrumental done by Producer 9th Wonder (off his Black Album Rejects beat tape) to paint the picture of him being a Ganja Smuggler. From enjoying the finest herb, to trafficking it, to getting a rush from dodging the law, Protoje is the one for all your smoking needs.

Since his mixtape, Protoje has worked his way up to releasing his first single “Arguments“, and became one of the prominent figures in the new wave of Reggae artists in recent years. He is set to drop his 4th album at the end of this month. For all the weed smokers and exporters. If you’re loving this post, be sure to check out our previous entries, and stay tuned for our next one. Check out the track, and follow us on Instagram at @13thStreetPromo.

We Take A “Quick Throwback” Look At @Ishawna’s “All Over Again”!

It’s Thursday, so that means another post in our “Quick Throwback” series! Before being a controversial figure in Dancehall, before emphasizing some “Equal Rights & Justice” and encouraging ladies to be a “Cheerful Giver“, Ishawna Smith was on the grind trying to be heard. Today we go back to the year 2008 to check out her track, “All Over Again”. Released through Foota Hype Music, Ishawna speaks about falling in love all over again with her lover. With looking back at the good times playing a big part, Ishawna is determined to make things right with him and make their relationship stronger than ever.

Under the guide of Bounty Killa and an affiliation with DJ Foota Hype, Ishawna moved on to being one of the popular figures on the Dancehall scene, and one of the more controversial ones thanks to the various subject matter in her lyrics.

Hear the track below and check us out next Thursday for another feature in our “Quick Throwback” series.

We Take A “Quick Throwback” Look Into @IAmEvaFlow’s “Diggy InFlow”

Long before he gave you an “Anthem“, and before he met a “Familiar Stranger“, Recording Artist EvaFlow was giving you bars. Today in a new episode in our “Quick Throwback” series, we go back to the early 2000’s to hear EvaFlow’s “Diggy InFlow“. Borrowing Jay Z’s “H.O.V.A.” instrumental and Protoje giving an intro, EvaFlow gets into his bag to deliver an “overdose” of rhymes straight to your ears. The track could be found on one of his earlier mixtapes titled, “Unsigned Unhyped OnPoint” which finds the artist tackling various Hip Hop beats. Straight outta Santa Cruz with the “Over…diggydose“!

Stay tuned for another quick throwback!

We Take A “Quick Throwback” Look Into @TheAlkaline’s “Mi Love Woman”!

We took a week off, but today we’re back with another post in our “Quick Throwback” series. Today we go back to the year 2011 with Alkaline’sMi Love Woman“! Borrowing Seanizzle’s “Split Personality Riddim“, the young Alka (who was attending Ardenne High School at the time) expressed his love for the women, and wishes to “touch all the women in the world“. He also shot a video and featured some of his high school peers.

Since the release of “Mi Love Woman”, Alkaline went on to become one of Jamaica’s most controversial Deejays with a cult-like following similar to currently incarcerated Artist, Vybz Kartel. He has enjoyed his fair share of hit songs as well, and has managed to see success despite taking time off, or being involved in conflict. Stay tuned for another quick throwback!

We Take A “Quick Throwback” Look Into @TheRoyalBlu’s “Legal Badman”!

Before Royal Blu, before “sinG with God“, before “El Fuego“, there was Sean-Michael Francis a.k.a. “Blu Kid“! In today’s episode of our “Quick Throwback” series, we go back to the year 2011 to hear BluKid’sLegal Badman“! Produced by Di Prodigyy, Blu sheds light on corruption in Jamaica’s Law Enforcement system where Police Officers abuse their powers and oppress many. Donning the role of a “Legal Badman“, they do whatever a Criminal would do, but shouldn’t face any repercussions because they wear the badge and the uniform.

Since the release of “Legal Badman”, BluKid went on to make some noise with the “Lethal Audio” Band, changed his name to “Royal Blu“, and released enough songs to make him one of the emerging young acts on the radars of many in Jamaica and overseas. Stay tuned for another quick throwback!

We Take A “Quick Throwback” Look Into @KabakaPyramid’s “Empty Souls”!

Before Kabaka Pyramid the Reggae Artist, before “Kontraband” hits the Internet, before “King Kabaka” ran the place, and before “Well Done” rocked the nation, there was the Rapper Keron Salmon a.k.a. “Ronny Pyramid” and he’s featured in our latest “Quick Throwback“! Going back to the year 2008, we check his track “Empty Souls“! Produced by Kevin Coates, Kabaka handles a sample based Production as he delivers some conscious Rap about saving those empty souls out there with the “doctrine from the Lost Papyrus“. The song also paid tribute to the late Rap Brown, a Rapper on the rise who was a part of Kabaka’s Bebble Rock crew, and known in the Jamaican Hip Hop scene.

Since the release of “Empty Souls”, Kabaka merged his Hip Hop influences with his Reggae side and became one of the prominent figures in the “Reggae Revival” movement along with Protoje, Jah 9, Jesse Royal, and many more. He has since released a few projects, and is looking to release his debut Album, “Kontraband” in May 2018. Stay tuned for another quick throwback!
