Tommy Lee Sparta & Vybz Kartel Reconnect In “Dark Ages”

Remember when Tommy Lee Sparta was the newest member of the Gaza Empire? Years later, the “Sparta Boss” has acquired quite a following. Despite the fame and notoriety, the law is still within arms reach of him. Currently incarcerated, he still manages to get his work out in the streets just like his mentor Vybz Kartel. Today, we hear them reunited on the track, “Dark Ages“.

Produced and released through Naviigator Entertainment, Tommy Lee Sparta and Vybz Kartel have no fear when it comes to tackling their enemies. When it’s a Gaza/Sparta link up, we know it’s no laughing matter. Over some dark production, the duo gets lyrically aggressive, but keep their weapons of mass destruction very close. Though both artists are going through incarceration, the fans are continuing to fuel their respective movements. From Portmore to Mobay, to all parts of the world.

The Purpose of Therapy: A Live Well Jamaica Feature & Campaign

As Jamaicans, we strive to achieve all things bright and beautiful. Our lifestyle is one that reflects livity and freedom; that is brand Jamaica. However, what has been severely affecting our liberating culture in recent times, is the stereotypical treatment of our men, ultimately enhancing an anti-climatic nature of not seeking help — therapy, in particular. This phenomenon has been a constant discourse as it continues to haunt men in our society from one generation to the next. In our daily activities, it is evident that a significant number of males in our society who face life-threatening experiences are more likely to cover up their emotions and repress their feelings.

For many of them, this repression tends to manifest in unpleasant ways such as violence and sometimes even imposter syndrome and depression. Yet, they are reluctant to seek professional help in an effort to release those burdens. What’s even more saddening, is that many persons aren’t aware that mental health facilities even exist. These are the reasons we are taking an in-depth approach to raising awareness.

Therefore, this campaign ‘(His) tory: Normalize Therapy for Young Men’, seeks to eradicate the barriers between therapy and the fear that men experience, and provide useful information for them to receive the help. The purpose of therapy for men, as explained by Dr. Wendy- Lou Greenidge, is to ‘reshape the thought process of Caribbean perspective from stereotyping therapy to seeking professional help’.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Trinity – Three Piece Suit (1975)

Today on Oldies Sunday, we celebrate a Jamaican Icon who has transitioned on to the big session in the afterlife. Today we show respect to the late Wade “Trinity” Brammer and his classic, “Three Piece Suit“.

Produced by Joe Gibbs and Errol Thompson and released through Belmont Records in 1975, Trinity delivered his track in a style that we know as “toasting/deejaying“. A style that was also made popular by the likes of U-Roy, Dennis Alcapone, and many others, Trinity got lyrical over the “version/instrumental” of the popular Alton Ellis single, “I’m Still In Love With You” to speak about his situation with a voluptuous woman. The single was later featured on Trinity’s 1977 album of the same name. A song that is considered one of the first Dancehall songs, it became a huge hit for Trinity, and later inspired a counteraction track from Jamaican duo Althea & Donna titled, “Uptown Top Ranking” which went on to become a classic. Since the release of “Three Piece Suit”, Trinity helped to inspire the new generations of artists especially in the growing genre known as Dancehall, has collaborated with some of the top artists, and released a lot more classic material. Trinity passed away on April 9, 2021, but his music continues to live on.

thank you trinity. walk good!
