Versatile, lyrically robust, confident yet humble are just a few words used to describe this young gunner in Dancehall music, J-Yungg. Born Ajay Richards under the sagittarius sign on the 16th of December, 1987, J-Yungg was raised in the rural community of Grange Hill in the parish of Westmoreland, where the legendary Peter Tosh spent a significant part of his early childhood.
J-Yungg was introduced to music by his uncle, Reggae artist “Careful one”. He started performing at various shows in his community with his uncle at age 8, artistes such as Ninja Man would be in attendance of these shows.
His big break came when he linked up with legendary Guitarist Lincoln Thomas four years ago. Lincoln then introduced him to David “D-MO” Morris who has produced for Aidonia, Blak Ryno, and Spice amongst others from the House of Leeds camp. J-Yungg started his career as a rapper but then switched to Dancehall in late 2010 which has started to pay off. J-Yungg has performed on numerous shows locally and internationally including the Linkage Radio Awards in New York where he received favourable reviews in the media for his performance. After getting rotations on local and overseas stations for songs like “Moving Up”, “Guilty Conscience”, “Nuh Boy Cyaa”, “No Gyal” and “Only Break Your Heart”, he has solidified his name as a rising star in the Dancehall/Reggae scene.
