When Dancehall meets Hip Hop, it’s always a vibe. Recently, Hip Hop legend and member of the iconic Wutang Clan Ghostface Killah released his latest album, “Set The Tone“. The album is the Rapper’s 12th solo studio release, and it features a number of big names, and he taps into new and familiar sounds. One of the familiar sounds dates back to the 1980s, and it highlights one of Dancehall’s classic Vocalists.
On the track “Champion Sound” off of Ghostface Killah’s “Set The Tone” album, the late Tenor Saw’s “On Top Of The World” was sampled. The track was made as a Dubplate for the Stereo Mars Sound System, which was owned by Businessman Kenneth Black a.k.a. “Skeng Don“, and was played at a PNP (The People’s National Party) Rally in 1986. Tenor Saw had a successful music career in the 1980s and was one of the most influential voices in the early digital Reggae/Dancehall era, but his potential and life was cut short in 1988. “Champion Sound” was produced by Ghostface and Danny Caiazzo, and features US-based Dancehall Artist Beniton, who holds his own alongside the New York Hip Hop legend. Ghostface Killah’s “Set The Tone” album is out now.
