Artiste Spotlight: Zagga (@ZaggaMusic)

“The fight is only over when you win, losing is not an option!”, these were the words quoted by rising Dancehall star Zagga. Born Austill Henry on June 17, 1990, this St. Ann based deejay has his sights set on achieving greatness and with his determination, accomplish all his goals.

Zagga has been doing music from the tender age of 10 while attending Ocho Rios Primary School. He was known for making music by knocking on desk tops that would bring out his personal style in Dancehall/Reggae and showcasing his marvelous talent to the encouragement of his peers. Upon his advancement to Ocho Rios High School he performed in most of the school’s events. ”I can even recall modeling for the Black History Month celebration, I was “Mr. Ethiopia” and got 1st runner up and after modeling I ripped the stage up with a smashing performance” Zagga says.

Zagga was introduced to Rap/Hip Hop music in his early teens by his peers, “Bollo” and “Blaze”. With influences such as Eminem and DMX, he used his love for the genre and the style to help compose many of his songs to gain recognition amongst his peers inside and outside the music industry. On April 1, 2011 he released his first mixtape entitled, “The Mixtape God”. This mixtape contained popular songs which were remixed by Zagga himself. The mixtape garnered alot of attention, many downloads and was praised by many artistes, listeners and DJs. A few of its tracks were requested and went on regular rotation on Zip 103 FM, Hitz 92 FM, and Irie FM which are a few of Jamaica’s most popular radio stations.

After the success of his mixtape, Zagga was approached by Ruption of RD Studios, who happened to be a good friend of his. A unofficial release of “Island Breeze”, a song off “The Remix God”, caught the attention of Ruption and inspired him to pitch the song to producer Jordan McClure of Chimney Records. A management deal for Zagga resulted out of that pitch and soon after work commenced. Songs such as “Versatile in Love (Steel Strings Riddim)”, “We a mek steppings (Steppings Riddim)”, “Money me want (Intensity Riddim)” and “Change” were released to the public and the attention from them enabled Zagga to be featured in newspapers and interviewed by various radio stations. Collecting Grammy awards, breaking records and performing at various high profile events are just some of his ambitions for the future.

Check out his current single, “Change” below….ENJOY!!!

  1. Trust me this dude has the potential to not only dominate dancehall music, but on the hip hop scene. His rhymes are just as good as that of the Lil Wayne, Jay Z or Eminem. His talent goes beyond what words can express. Ah Zagga!!!!!!
