It’s a new week, and we give thanks! Have you watched anything over the weekend? Care to share with us? This past weekend, the Showtime Network series, “The First Lady” aired their latest episode. The series is a reframing of American leadership, told through the lens of the Women at the heart of the White House. the series stars Viola Davis, Gillian Anderson, Dakota Fanning, and Michelle Pfeiffer. If you’ve been up to date with the series, a familiar Jamaican song may have caught your ears.
On episode 5 of “The First Lady”, Bob Marley & The Wailers’ “I Shot The Sheriff” made its way in the opening scene. Written by Bob Marley, produced by The Wailers and Chris Blackwell, and released through Island Records/Tuff Gong in 1973, “I Shot The Sheriff” is a chart topping classic. The single was featured on The Wailers’ 1973 album, “Burnin’“. The song has been covered by the likes of Eric Clapton, UB40, Howard Stern and Alpha Blondy, sampled and referenced by the likes of Warren G, Method Man, and Public Enemy, and had a few controversial moments through debates over its lyrics. “The First Lady” is now available for viewing on Showtime.
