.@DiGenius1 Brings Dancehall Classics To Streaming With “The Recovered Files” Album

The 2000s in Dancehall Music was an era that can never be duplicated. There were local and International crossovers, the ascension of Deejays who went on to become legends, and lots of good vibes and energy. It was in the mid 2000s that the world warmed up to a young Producer by the name of Stephen McGregor. The son of the legendary Freddie McGregor was determined to carve his own path in music, and the determination won. When he got his start, there was no stopping him, and he made hits with everyone. From Mavado, to Vybz Kartel, to Laden, to Agent Sasco, to Nicky B, to his brother Chino McGregor, the world got familiar to the sounds of “Di Genius“. There’s a lot of history in that Big Ship Studio. The years that followed saw a shift in the music Industry as MP3s and CDs soon gave way to Digital Music Streaming, and a number of those Di Genius hits never crossed over. In 2024, after lots of work, Stephen has made it a reality with the release of “The Recovered Files” album.

Featuring 20 classic tracks, Di Genius restored some of our favourites from the 2000s on “The Recovered Files” compilation album. We get music from a Vybz Kartel who was in heading into a new level of prime, a young Aidonia who was venomous on a Riddim, Chino who found his pocket and cruised over his brother’s productions, the rise of the “Gully Gad” Mavado, a young firecracker that was Blak Ryno, and more. Fans will fall in love with the “Darker Shadow Riddim“, recite some Gaza Commandments, reflect on their allegiances to Gaza, Gully, and J.O.P., and enjoy the work of Di Genius over and over on their favourite streaming platform. We believe “The Recovered Files” will be the start of a series of restorations and releases in the coming months, and with Di Genius at the helm, we know it will be a celebration every time. What’s your favourite Riddim from Di Genius?

Blak Ryno Speaks About The Ways Of “Mankind” On New Single

Dancehall Artist Blak Ryno deserves his flowers. Since the mid 2000s, he has made significant contributions to the Portmore Empire/Gaza brand with a number of hit singles, and a presence that inspired many. Though no longer a part of the camp, he kept himself afloat with singles and live shows over the years, and secured a fanbase that continues to support his every move. He’s solid with the lyrics, and he gives the people more to think about with the new track, “Mankind”.

Produced by Kahtion Beatz and released through Steamatic Records, Blak Ryno observes the ways of people in the new “Mankind” single. He shares experiences, and listeners can relate to the lyrics as we’ve all dealt with people who didn’t have good intentions. For every girl song, or something for the streets, Ryno ensured he had a track that shared life lessons, motivation, and prompted listeners to be more aware of the challenges one will experience in life. His name has been brought up in a number of conversations in the past few weeks, let’s see what else he has in store for the rest of the year.

Blak Ryno Gives Us A Visual For “Star Up In The Sky”

A couple weeks ago, Social Media hopped on a new trend called, #RockNRyno. The trend involved Dancehall Artist Blak Ryno’s music undergoing a series of Rock-themed remixes. These resulted in the Deejay actually crafting a Rock single called “Star Up In The Sky” with the help of ZJ Sparks, BloodlineFranco, and Chambah. The song quickly gained some attention, with many suggesting music videos, and projects. Ryno has fulfilled one request so far, and that’s an official music video.

Directed by SM Films, Blak Ryno gets the leather clothes, a Guitar, and that Rockstar energy going in “Star Up In The Sky”. His message of overcoming poverty is still strong here, and #RockNRyno is here for another round. Ryno shared recently that he was working on an EP, with the possibility that it may be Rock-themed. Only time will tell where he will go with this, and it’s good that his name has been at the forefront as many still celebrate his hits as a former member of the Portmore Empire. Too bad he didn’t break stuff in the video in the style of many we’ve seen over the years. Maybe on the next single. A BLAK RYNO, the Rockstar.

Blak Ryno Gives Us Real #RockNRyno With New Single, “Star Up In The Sky”

Over a week ago, Jamaican Social Media was on fire. Dancehall Artist Blak Ryno shared a song that for the currently-trending “Dutty Money Riddim“, with the intention of getting it authourized by Producer Rvssian. Ryno, who already had a classic on the original “Go-Go Club Riddim“, argued online that he should secure another hit on the revamped version of the beat. Things started to go left, and after a few series of jokes about his hair (he was flat ironing it during his argument), something beautiful happened. After a few jokes comparing Ryno to a Rockstar emerged, DJs and fans started seeing Ryno in another light. Out of the madness emerged, #RockNRyno, a series of remixes that placed the Deejay’s vocals over popular Rock, Soft Rock, and Alternative Instrumentals. What started as a joke turned into a boost into Ryno’s music career, and the anticipation of an actual Rock song from the Deejay. After all that talking, the track is finally here, and it’s called, “Star Up In The Sky“.

Produced by Silverbird Records/Twelve 9 Records/Get Em Franco, Blak Ryno shared his Rock side on “Star Up In The Sky”. With ZJ Sparks, BloodlineFranco, and Chambah at the helm, we get Ryno reflecting on his struggles over the years, sharing his ambitions and current challenges, and encouraging listeners to win and go for what’s theirs in order to overcome poverty. Like a star in the sky, he will shine throughout his mission. The first Rock offering from Ryno promises to open up opportunities for more releases, and he is currently finalizing his EP for a release later this year. Tackle poverty the #RockNRyno way.
