Today’s Oldies Sunday entry comes from Reggae artist, Luciano. Titled “Over The Hill” and produced by Phillip “Fattis” Burrell for Xterminator Productions in 1997 (Other sources say 1996), Luciano sang about the wrongs that were going on in the world, wanting to take away himself from the “Jungle” created by mankind and head to the hills to be free from all the madness. “Over The Hill” was featured on Luciano’s 5th album “Messenger” which was also his 2nd album released in 1997 on Island Records.
“Over The Hill” is considered one of Luciano’s popular songs with his mellow delivery and a soothing production. The music video for this single, which featured appearances from Reggae artist Sizzla, producer Sly Dunbar, and actor Carl Bradshaw, shows scenes of Luciano creating music in the studio and being one with nature with his friends.
“Over The Hill” was not Luciano’s first hit as he had success in previous years with songs like “Who Could It Be“, “It’s Me Again Jah“, “Never Give Up My Pride” and “Give My Love A Try“. Luciano saw much success with his “Messenger” album and went on to be a great in the Reggae music scene. Luciano also collaborated internationally with the Hip Hop group Jungle Brothers and has been sampled by the late Aaliyah. He received an Order of Distinction from Jamaica in 2007 for his musical contributions and even a Reggae album Grammy nomination for “A New Day” in 2002. He recently released his 20th album “The Qabalah Man” and has been travelling and giving his fans great music.
Thank You Luciano for this great song!
