OLDIES SUNDAY: General Echo – Afrikan National Heroes (1982)

On October 19, we will remember our National Heroes, and honour the new heroes on “National Heroes’ Day“. For today’s “Oldies Sunday” selection, we do the honouring through music. We go back in time to check out General Echo’s “Afrikan National Heroes“.

Produced by Martin H. Williams and released through the Mandingo Hotsteppers Label in 1982 (nearly two years after Echo’s death), General Echo sends a salute to the National Heroes of Jamaica in, “Afrikan National Heroes”. Echo also mentions the various Black Heroes around the world who did their part in liberating Black people including Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King Jr.. He shares his love and respect to the heroes, and highlights they fought for our rights and freedom, and encourages listeners to emulate our heroes to one day join them in the ranks. The song is one that was played during the National Heritage Week celebrations, and it continues to educate the people. As we celebrate another Heroes Day, may we never forget those who fought for us, and may we recognize those who did their part in building Jamaica. Salute!

THANK YOU GENERAL ECHO FOR THIS TRACK!
