The Month of October is recognized as “Black History Month” in the UK. The Month recognizes the achievements, the culture, and history of Black people of African and Caribbean descent. For today’s “Oldies Sunday” selection, we highlight a British Girl Group who are of Caribbean descent, that made some noise in the 90s/2000s. We go back in time to check out Fierce’s “Sweet Love 2k“.
Produced by Stargate and released through Wildstar Records in 2000, Fierce, consisting of Chantel Alleyne, Aisha Peters, and Sabrina Weathers, “Sweet Love 2k” was a remixed version of their 1999 cover of US Singer Anita Baker’s 1986 hit, “Sweet Love“. The original cover was produced by Jeremy Wheatley, and Magnus Fiennes. The trio brought their own sound to the track, with the Stargate version giving it a chance to cross over to more markets. The track followed the release of the group’s 1999 debut album, “Right Here Right Now“. “Sweet Love 2k” became a hit for the group, peaking at #2 on the UK R&B Chart, and #3 on the UK Singles Chart.
Since the release of “Sweet Love 2k”, Fierce would maintain a presence, but it was short-lived. “Sweet Love 2k” would be their final release. The group would disband in the year 2000, despite having singles that did well for them on the charts, and hitting the road supporting Artists like Whitney Houston. The members would go off to live lives, except for Aisha Peters, who released music over the years, become a MOBO-nominated Artist, and has a career in Health, and Sabrina Weathers, who dabbled in Gospel, Reggae, and Pop under the name TeeJAH, and even tried her hand at Content Creation. Chantel Alleyne would end up on an episode of the “Deal Or No Deal” game show in 2025, and is an Office Manager. “Sweet Love 2k” remains their biggest, and most recognized hit.
THANK YOU FIERCE FOR THIS HIT!
