Jamaican DJ/Producer Xavier “CodeLank” Brown has been in the business for many years, and as a part of the Code Red Sound, he has given people unforgettable memories by playing their favourite songs, won over the competition in clash events, and provided some well-needed energy at various events. Now, he wants to help aspiring and emerging DJs to become greats in their own arenas with the help of his new book, “Cue Points: The Secret DJ Playbook“.

Released in late 2024, CodeLank aims to give the budding DJ tips, tricks, and solid advice on the ways of a well-rounded and professional DJ with his “Cue Points: The Secret DJ Playbook”. No matter the level, there is something for everyone. From building quality Playlists, to advanced DJing techniques, to building a presence on and offline, CodeLank covers plenty with his new book. The DJ community has grown significantly in Jamaica over the years, and many would benefit greatly from this, and be able to truly create their own lanes in no time. Skippa Pays Tribute To The Late “Thickman” In “1DB4L”

Music is a reflection of what’s going on in the world, and expresses the feelings that can stem from various life experiences. In Dancehall, the music shares the ups and downs, success, loss, and so much more. For Dancehall Artist Skippa, he reflects on the loss of someone important on “1DB4L“.

In a video directed by Banka for Bankroller Visuals, Skippa pays tribute to the late Othniel Labbon a.k.a. “Thickman” a.k.a. “Daddy Baddness“, who lost his life last month. In the video for “1DB4L”, which was produced by Rich Together Ent./Chargie Records we see many mourning the loss, and celebrating his life in the best way they can. From pouring out liquor, to printed buttons and t shirts, to waving the Spain flag, Labbon’s name lives on in the people that looked up to him. Skippa does his part, as a number of other Dancehall Artists have been paying tribute in recent days. 1 Daddy Baddness.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Johnny Nash – Hold Me Tight (1968)

February is recognized as “Reggae Month” in Jamaica, and in parts of the world. It is also Black History Month, and on “Oldies Sunday“, we’re celebrating Black Music. Today, we highlight History as we go back to the 1960s to check out American Reggae/Pop/Soul Singer Johnny Nash and his track, “Hold Me Tight“.

Co-Produced with Arthur Jenkins and released through JAD Records in 1968, Johnny Nash is making up with him lady through song in “Hold Me Tight”. Nash admits his mistakes throughout the relationship, and realizes that his lady is the right one for him, so he’s going to do all the right things to make the their union better. “Hold Me Tight” created History as being one of the first Rocksteady singles to be performed and released by a non-Jamaican, and it went on to become a top 5 hit in North America (securing a #1 in Canada), and earning a top 5 placement in the UK. It also paved the way for Nash to release even more Reggae/Rocksteady singles. “Hold Me Tight” was used in Commercials for the Score brand, was sampled by Tanya Stephens and Spragga Benz, and covered by the likes of Gregory Isaacs, Eddie Lovette, Anthony Swete, and Anita Harris.

Since the release of “Hold Me Tight”, Johnny Nash continued to release more albums and singles until the early 80s where he seemed to have disappeared from the spotlight. His career enjoyed some resurgence during the 90s, and started singing again in the 2000s. Johnny Nash passed away in October 2020 after his health started to decline for years. “Hold Me Tight” remains one of his most popular singles to date, and a part of Jamaican Music History.

It’s February, and the start of “Reggae Month“. The genre has come a long way, and it continues to grow, and expand to new territories. One Reggae Artist who continues to contribute to its growth is Haile Celestial f.k.a. 5 Star Celestial. Earlier, he shared the visual for the single, “Walking Parable“.

Directed by Aim See Love, Haile Celestial continues to uphold the Rastafarian order on the Kabaka Pyramid-featured “Walking Parable”. Produced by Iotosh, the two Artists trade solid lyrics, elevate their way of life and mindset, and call for the fall of the products of negativity and corruption while highlighting a few locations, and familiar faces including Dr. Kadamawe Knife. Haile continues to share music with strong messages, remains militant with his presence, and build a solid fanbase. Bun down Babylon, dem horrible.

There was a time when you saw a photo of Dale Elliott Jr., someone would comment that they could hear it. Nowadays when you see a photo of his, he might be getting ready to take on a stage. Recently, he announced that he will be taking on the world this Summer with his “Son Of An Immigrant” World Tour. He has come a long way since the Comedy skits and his debut as an Actor in “Sprinter“, but now he is building his brand in a major way. He also announced that he’s dropping new music, and with February being the month for Valentines, he debuts the single, “Lover Boy“.

Produced by Di Genius, Dale Elliott Jr. is here for the ladies, and all of the ladies in “Lover Boy”. The song taps into the style of the 90s Reggae/R&B collaborations, and Dale rolls out the list of features he has as a lover boy, and is ready to meet a Woman’s list of requirements, and desires. The self-directed Music Video blends with his Comedy style, but throughout he’s letting the ladies know he’s here for them all. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, there are many who will find themselves getting into that loving mood, and “Lover Boy” may just be on the Playlist. Make way for Dale the Lover Boy.
