It’s no secret that Hip Hop Artist Drake is a fan of Jamaica’s music culture. From his choice of slang, to his affiliations, to his hometown being chock full of the Jamaican influence, it’s only right that his “Views” album gets some of the essence. Off the recently released album, Dancehall Artist Mavado is featured on Views’ 2nd track, “9“. “9” features a sample from the Deejay’s 2007 single “Dying” off his “Gangsta For Life” debut album. “Dying” was produced by DASECA Productions and features Serani. It’s not the first time both Artists have crossed paths as Mavado played a role in Drake’s “Find Your Love” video off “Thank Me Later“, and Drake was a guest during Mavado’s set at “Britjam 2011“. “Views” also sampled Beenie Man’s “Tear Off Mi Garment” on an updated version of “Controlla” which was previously leaked with Dancehall Artist Popcaan. “Controlla” also gave writing credits to Jamaican Producer Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor and Supa Dups. “Tear Off Mi Garment” was produced by Patrick Roberts and was released in 1995 on the “Urkle Riddim“. Popcaan’s “Love Yuh Bad” is also sampled on the Rihanna assisted “Too Good” and also includes Supa Dups in the writing credits. The track was produced by Dre Skull and is featured on Popcaan’s debut album, “Where We Come From“. Popcaan is currently affiliated with Drake’s OVO group. “Views” is now available on iTunes.
Adidjahiem Records/TJ Records in association with Zojak World Wide are excited to announce the release of “King of the Dancehall”, the brand new album from Dancehall Icon, Vybz Kartel. The 14-track set contains all-exclusive, never before released tracks from the “World Boss” Vybz Kartel. Recorded by the prolific artist before his incarceration, the tracks have been carefully completed by renowned Dancehall producer Linton ‘TJ’ White of TJ Records and Adidjahiem the label known for “bussing” artists like Popcaan, Jah Vinci, Lisa Hyper, Tommy Lee Sparta and more, as well as the Billboard chart topping hit “Romping Shop.” Fans who have been longing to hear Kartel at his best will not be disappointed.
Kartel says “King of the Dancehall” is not a 14 song compilation, it’s a masterpiece, an album that encompasses the very essence of Adidja Palmer and by extension, The Jamaican experience,” stated Kartel (aka Adidja Palmer) in a written statement released to the media. “King of the Dancehall” will reinforce Vybz Kartel’s status as not just another self-proclaimed King, but as the people’s champion. The man who has created a movement like no other in DANCEHALL – the true KING!!!”
As the title suggests, the album is dancehall to its core. In another part of his statement Kartel, also known to his fans as “The Teacha” said “This album will bring its listeners into the world of hardcore DANCEHALL, not some ‘pop music’ watered down version. It will give you a peek into my Jamaica. Not the one on the tourist board ads, but the real Jamaica…DANCEHALL JAMAICA”
Distributed by Zojak World Wide, the album will hit stores on June 10th and fans can pre-order the album exclusively on iTunes starting May 6th. Listeners are in for a musical experience from the “World Boss” who is truly a voice of the people.
For many Drake fans, the “Views From The 6” album can’t come any sooner. For Popcaan fans, they say “Finally!” in unison as the two Artists join forces for “Controlla“. A song for the ladies, Drake brings the R&B smoothness while Popskull brings the Island Dancehall Flavour over a Dancehall tinged Production. Will this be on “Views From The 6“? We’re not sure but check out the track below and share your thoughts in the comments section.

ZJ Liquid is one of the undisputed Kings of Radio! If you know the Popcaan song that shares its name with this mix, you definitely have an idea of what you are in for once you press play. He fittingly kicks this Dancehall mix off with a song that probably best describes his status as a “Big League” DJ.
DJ Private Ryan is a household name for a reason. Soca Brainwash was the perfect last lap mix for the “Greatest Show” on earth. It was the soundtrack of choice for a recent road trip and has been a go to mix for the past week!
