Learn From Some Of The Key Moments From @IShowSpeedSui’s Jamaica Livestream

On May 8, global Twitch Streamer/Content Creator IShowSpeed visited Jamaica as a part of his successful Caribbean Tour. Speed previously visited Barbados, Trinidad, Puerto Rico, Guadeloupe, Grenada, and St. Lucia to name a few, and the stop in Jamaica was very anticipated. The stream has since amassed over 3 Million views, and is the talk of the world. From culture, to music, to food, Speed got a taste of the Jamaican hospitality, and lifestyle. For those new to Jamaica, we want to highlight a few key moments and personalities from the stream.

Speed Meeting Yendi Phillipps

IShowSpeed’s first stop in his Jamaica Tour found him being guided by Yendi Phillipps. Phillipps is a former Miss Jamaica World (2007), Miss Jamaica Universe (2010), a Miss Universe 1st Runner Up (2010), and has represented Jamaica in not only beauty, but in the Media as a Personality. Phillipps welcomed Speed to Jamaica, and educated him on the Island’s Art, History, Dance, and Traditional Music.

Speed Trying Jamaican KFC

When it came to food, Speed’s first stop was at KFC. KFC in the Caribbean has been highly rated since its inception in the 1970s, with Jamaica holding the top spot for many. Having previously the meals from other Islands, it was Speed’s turn to know if the hype was real, or it was an “L”. After the taste test, Jamaican KFC is #1.

Speed Meets Sean Paul

Upon visiting the Haile Selassie High School, Speed was welcomed by International Dancehall Artist, Sean Paul. Sean Paul is a Platinum-selling, GRAMMY-winning Artist who commanded the 2000s with hits like “Like Glue“, “Gimme Di Light“, “Temperature“, and extended his success over the years with collaboration with SIA, Dua Lipa, Migos, Beyonce, Keyshia Cole, and many others. Paul performed at the high school, and also made a musical donation prior to Speed’s visit. Check out this Sean Paul Playlist.

Speed Eating Patties At Tastee Patties

Since the beginning of the livestream, Speed requested Patties. After a few stops, he entered Tastee Patties where he tried a variety of their offerings, which all resulted in a seal of approval. Tastee Patties is one of the Island’s major Patty establishments, having opened its doors in 1966 by Vincent Chang. It started as a small shop in Union Square, and enjoyed an Island-wide expansion in its 60 years. It is the home of the Original Jamaican Patty.

Speed Meets The Hon. Olivia “Babsy” Grange At The National Stadium

Upon entering The National Stadium, Speed was greeted by The Hon. Olivia “Babsy” Grange. Grange is the National Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sport, and from your favourite music events, to our Athletes representing Jamaica at the Olympics, Hon. Speed Meets And Performs With Beenie Man

Throughout the livestream, you could hear Speed attempting to sing a song called, “Rum & Redbull“. To the unaware, this is a 2010 hit single by Dancehall Artists Beenie Man, and Future Fambo. After his visit to The National Stadium, Speed was greeted by Beenie, and from there they began to interact. Beenie Man is a GRAMMY-winning Dancehall King who first gained recognition as a child star in the late 1970s/early 1980s. He has collaborated Internationally with Janet Jackson, Nicki Minaj, Wyclef Jean, and Mya. Check out this Beenie Man Playlist.

Speed Cooks With Shenseea

In the closing parts of Speed’s livestream, he made a stop at Devon House, and was greeted by Dancehall Artist Shenseea. Shenseea is a breakout star from the mid 2010s, and has since gained International recognition. She is known for the singles “Hit & Run“, “Blessed“, “ShenYeng Anthem“, and has collaborated with International acts Tyga, Megan Thee Stallion, Mariah Carey, and Kanye West. After their meeting, Shenseea introduced Ackee and Saltfish to Speed. The meal is Jamaica’s national dish, and the Ackee is the national fruit. She also taught him how the Ackee is prepared, as it can be poisonous when not prepared properly, and even reaped properly.
