The Specials’ “Enjoy Yourself” Featured On @TedLasso Season 4 Closer

Last week, popular TV series “Ted Lasso” closed its 4th season. The series returned earlier this year after announcing that it would conclude in the 3rd season previously, and looks to possibly return for a 5th season. The season featured a lot of music, but for one episode, there was a familiar sound that had to be spoken about.

In the end credits of the 10th episode of Ted Lasso season 4, British Ska Band The Specials’ “Enjoy Yourself” was featured. Originally named “Enjoy Yourself (It’s Later Than You Think)“, this was a cover of the 1949 Guy Lambardo and His Royal Canadians hit single, which was adapted from the 1934 Sacha Guitry “Amusez-Vous“. Produced by Dave Jordan and Specials member Jerry Dammers, this was the opener for the band’s 1980 album, “More Specials“. “Enjoy Yourself” was previously featured as the opening music for the BBC Radio 4 Comedy panel show, “I’ve Never Seen Star Wars“. The Specials was a British Ska Revival/2-Tone band that featured Jamaican Musicians Neville Staple, Lynval Golding, and Cuban-Jamaican Musician Rico Rodriguez.

Jimmy Cliff’s “Wonderful World” Featured In @AppleTV’s “The Big Cigar”

“The Big Cigar” is one of the latest additions to the growing Apple TV streaming platform. Starring Andre Holland, Alessandro Nivola, and Tiffany Boone, the series focuses on the late Activist Huey P. Newton and his Black Panther Party in the 1970s, and his escape from a manhunt from the FBI to Cuba. The series features music from a number of stars from the 1960s and 70s, but a familiar sound from Jamaica was featured in one of the episodes.

In episode 3 of “The Big Cigar” called “Guns & Matzah“, Jamaican Icon Jimmy Cliff’s “Wonderful World, Beautiful People” could be heard during a scene. Produced by Leslie Kong and Cliff and released in 1969 through Trojan Records, “Wonderful World” is a vision by Cliff on what the world could be if things were done different. The song was a top ten hit for Cliff in various countries (was Trojan Records’ 1st hit), and was featured in his self-titled 1969 Reggae album (Sometimes known as “Wonderful World, Beautiful People“). “Wonderful World” was sampled by Cutty Ranks, and was covered by the likes of Sasha, Chuck Bennett, OreSkaBand, and Amazulu. “The Big Cigar” is now available for viewing on Apple TV.

The Harry J Allstars’ “Liquidator” Featured In New @TedLasso Episode

It has been said over and over that good music will always prevail. When it comes to Jamaican music, the same can be said as it has managed to stick to many through the decades. Recently, the Apple TV+ hit series “Ted Lasso” returned with its 3rd season. The series focuses on Ted Lasso who is played by Jason Sudeikis, an American Football (NFL) Coach who takes his talents to the UK to manage a British Football (Soccer) team. The 2nd episode of the 3rd season kicked off on March 22, and a familiar sound was heard.

In the episode “(I Don’t Want To Go To) Chelsea” of “Ted Lasso”, The Harry J Allstars’ “Liquidator” was featured. The Instrumental was produced by Harry “Harry J” Johnson, and released through the Harry J label. “Liquidator” was sampled by Al Bell for The Staple Singers’ classic “I’ll Take You There“, covered by numerous Artists, and was famously used as run out music for the Football Clubs Wolverhampton Wanderers, Northampton Town, Yeovil Town, West Bromwich Albion, and most famously, Chelsea, who claims to have 1st used it.

“Ted Lasso” is now available for streaming on Apple TV+.
