Doza Medicine Shares His “Mission”

How much of a “Portmore Empire” fan are you? How many of you remember the original Portmore Empire though? When it was Vybz Kartel, Deva Bratt, Nuclear, the late Craig Dennis, Earthworm, Doza Medicine, the late Gaza Maxwell, Shawn Storm, Avalanche, Black Ryno, Baby Doll, and the First Lady Omeil. A lot has happened since those days, and members came and went, and have chosen different paths in life. One of the celebrated former members, Doza Medicine, has managed stay above the negativity in the world, and have a life for himself. With the advent of the “Street Vybz 2.0 Riddim“, he steps in with the single, “Mission“.

With the original “Gaza/Portmore Empire ProducerNotnice at the helm, Doza Medicine gives listeners a blast from the past vibes with his “Mission” single. Having recorded the singles “Every Song Dat Play” and “Trinidad & Tobago” on the original “Street Vybz Riddim” in 2010, Doza feels right at home as he shares his ambitions to become a Billionaire, his views on the “Choppas” of Dancehall, staying mysterious to those who believed he was living a destitute life, reminiscing on the good old days, and living life in the best way he can. The single is accompanied by a Music Video that finds him catching flights, signing contracts, and living it up with his people. Despite what some may say, Doza Medicine is doing ok. We can always reflect on the early days of the Portmore Empire, and with discussions of Vybz Kartel’s freedom getting hot, let’s see what the future has in store for us, and the Artists in terms of reunions.

Gold Gad Plots On An “Industry Chop”

Jamaica is on high alert as it has become the target of a scam operation. No we’re not talking about the Lottery Scamming that has been prevalent for a number of years. We’re talking about prominent citizens becoming victims of the “Gold Gad Chop“. Dancehall Artist/Scam Expert Gold Gad wants it all, and he won’t spare any of them in, “Industry Chop“.

Hopping on Notnice’sStreet Vybz 2.0 Riddim“, Gold Gad is making his list, and checking it twice in “Industry Chop”. He brags about “ChoppingRvssian, and has his eyes set on Notnice, Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Joe Bogdanovic, Bounty Killa, Valiant, Protoje, Squash, RajahWild, Malie Don, and many more. He makes an exception with Jada Kingdom however, and in the INDUSTRi-directed video, he gets to work on his various “choppings” in his lair. He’s taking every last cent, and cheques will bounce when he gets to work, so beware. Can MOCA stop him? We doubt it. Gold Gad releases his video in time for the official release of the “Street Vybz 2.0 Riddim” compilation, and will feature many more hits. Be careful not to get “chopped“.

.@GovanaGenna Brings Back “Deablo” for “Gvn Toe”

Recently, Dancehall Producer Notnice had the Dancehall scene feeling nostalgic with the revamped version of his classic “Street Vybz Riddim“. Named “Street Vybz 2.0“, Deejays Chronic Law and Aidonia quickly secured hits with “Weekend” and “Bottles” respectively, and it was rumoured that many more Artists would make their contributions on the Riddim. Another one who stepped up to bat was Govana as he shared a preview. Today, it gets official with the release of “Gvn Toe“.

With a video directed by Rizzy for Now Or Never, Govana brings out his badman side on “Gvn Toe”. Going back to his former stage name “Deablo“, no one is safe when the Deejay steps out with his artillery. While others provided party songs on “Street Vybz 2.0”, Govana wanted shots to ring out with his release. The dark visual adds to the sinister lyrics, and will be a popular one for listeners. This one is for the “StrikeForce” crew, the “4th Genna” set, Deablo makes a temporary return to the scene, and he’s ready for whatever.

Dancehall Music has always had its share of feuds and drama since its inception. What can happen out of the conflict are either great songs, flopped careers, a boost in profile, or a resolution where both parties make amends for the better. The mid to late 2000s saw the rise of the Portmore Empire/Gaza, Gullyside, The Alliance, and J.O.P. (now 4th Genna) camps, all headed by Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Bounty Killa, and Aidonia respectively. There was turmoil, with each camp having some form of beef. In one episode, Aidonia and Vybz Kartel started beefing, pitting their camps against each other. Today that beef is long gone, and we see Aidonia joining forces with Notnice, once a top Producer for Portmore Empire, to release the single, “Bottles“.

“Bottles” is a celebration of life and good times, with Aidonia for the first time recording over production by Notnice. Over a revamped version of the classic “Street Vybz Riddim” that was released in 2010, we’re popping bottles, living it up with friends, and building a vibe like no other “when bad song a drop“. The “Street Vybz Riddim” got new life at the end of 2023 with Chronic Law’sWeekend, and now Aidonia captains the Ship to make it one of the hottest Riddims for 2024. Fans will be taken back to the days of a very dominant Aidonia and his J.O.P. cohorts, and the times when Notnice was everywhere. We look forward to hearing more from this pairing, and who have been recruited to voice on the Riddim (Alkaline has been rumoured to be next up). Sometimes beef can end on a good note. J.O.P.!
