The 2020s saw the rise of the 2nd generation of Trap Dancehall. Whether you say “Trap” or “Chop“, these Artists put the spotlight on the lifestyle, delivered a new sound that quickly built a movement, and gained recognition in various parts of the world. Ymo G is one of those Artists, and he has been consistent with his music from the beginning, with a fanbase that continues to grow. He takes the music to the next level with the release of his debut EP, “Vengeance“.

Featuring 6 tracks and released through Zombih Ent., Ymo G joins the growing list of Trap Dancehall Artists to give the people a packaged form of their music with the “Vengeance EP”. The subject matter doesn’t stray from the Women, the vices, the money, and the fast life, but Ymo G does his part in further building the “Trap/Chop Dancehall” catalogue for the world to consume. His sound doesn’t hide in this project, and YoDelliDem and Trxpskull Records provide some dark production for this soundtrack. He also shares his stage with Meelo and SVM, who also shed light on the Trap lifestyle. “Vengeance” makes way for more releases from the Artist, and we know he’s busy working on them for later distribution. They may come as a surprise sometimes, but for someone who is alert, it was only a matter of time before the moments happened. Dancehall Artist Kranium deals with this and more in, “Cut The Link“.

Featuring Dancehall Artist Masicka and produced by TJ Records, Kranium deals with fake people in “Cut The Link”. It’s never good when someone who you’ve confided in and trusted betrays you, and while some of us may have a forgiving heart, there are people in the world who are only good for an image, but have dirty minds, hearts, and intentions. All you can do is cut them off. Kranium and Masicka share their experiences, and offer words of advice and encouragement to the listener who is going through similar situations. The world is crazy, and houses crazier people, just be on your guard.

Since the late 2010s, Recording Artist Blvk H3ro has been putting in the work to become one of the standout acts in the “Future Reggae” lane. With many years now behind him, he has secured record deals, growth in his fanbase, high profile collaborations and cosigns, consistent bookings, crossing over to the International market, and even earned a GRAMMY nomination. He isn’t slowing down however, and recently he made his debut as a Producer on the single, “Victory“.

“Victory” is a collaboration between Reggae Icons Sizzla Kalonji, and Anthony B. Blvk H3ro’s Producer debut was done with Island Vibe Agency, and the track finds the Reggae acts praising Jah, providing words of motivation for the people, calling for an end to corruption, and encouraging many to be more in tune with the Creator. Sizzla and Anthony B always make for a good collab, and Blvk H3ro scored a solid first release as he provided the sound for two Artists who he considers his musical inspirations. For those who didn’t know, Anthony B previously worked with H3ro on the “On A Mission” album. H3ro is also working on a new album, with a possible release this year, so stay tuned.

Ai Milly Reloads With 8 New Tracks

Last November, Dancehall Artist Ai Milly fulfilled the wishes of his fans with the release of the long-awaited “PGLT” project. Since then, he has been staying busy with live performances, and content in support of the new project. For the new year, he decided to keep the engine running with the release of 8 new singles.

Released over the weekend on his Youtube platform, Ai Milly is ensuring his fans are taken care of with an EP’s worth of new music. From bad man tunes to a little “Trapsoul“, some of the tracks suggest that they were left out of the lineup for “PGLT”. Production on the singles include the likes of Prod.Carterr, RKTrap, Elite Entertainment, and DinDin for Hemton Music, and there’s even a collaboration that features Recording Artist Barbie J. OLDIES SUNDAY: The In-Crowd – Marcus Garvey’s Back In Town (1979)

Today (January 19) is a historic day. While many are experiencing the on and off in terms of Social Media platform TikTok, this morning it was revealed that Jamaica’s first National Hero, Marcus Garvey, was posthumously pardoned by the Biden Administration in the United States. This comes after more than 101 years after he was convicted of Mail Fraud in 1923. The case was accused of having racial and political overtones, and many advocates rallied for a pardon over the decades, but to no avail. In US President Joe Biden’s final day, he made the pardon possible, and on “Oldies Sunday“, we celebrate. Today’s selection comes from The In-Crowd with the track, “Marcus Garvey’s Back In Town“.

Produced by Phil Mathias, written by Fil Callender, and released through Weed Beat in 1979, “Marcus Garvey’s Back In Town” was The In-Crowd’s way of bringing the late National Hero to the public again, and pay tribute to him. They speak about his influence, his works and contributions to advancing Black People, and encouraging the people to fight for their rights, and demand reparations. The upbeat production carries the solid lyrics throughout, persuading the public to take an ear, and be inspired to do the right thing. “Marcus Garvey’s Back In Town” gained popularity when it was released, and was featured on the group’s 1978 album, “His Majesty Is Coming“.

Today’s a big day in Jamaican and Black History, and let’s see what other possibilities are there in the coming future.
