Ayetian Brings “Donkey Call” To The “Hill & Gully Riddim”

If you thought the “Hill & Gully” agenda died, it’s just getting started. While Di Genius has been enjoying a lot of attention for the “Hill & Gully Riddim“, some of the entries were causing controversy. As with every Riddim, the music must go on. Today, Dancehall Artist Ayetian finally steps up with, “Donkey Call“.

The Caribbean culture continues to get highlighted in Ayetian’s “Donkey Call”. The song was partially inspired by the folk song, “Donkey Song“, but is more of Ayetian’s account of his time in the countryside, including the visit of a “Nine Night“/Wake. The track is accompanied by a music video directed by Brownland Pictures, and one of Jamaica’s most popular TV shows, “Hill & Gully Ride” is highlighted here. The video features a the likes of Prince Guava, Evy Royal, Iconsage, and Pukupoo along with a number of dancers and musicians. The video showcases what happens at a Nine Night, from the drinking, to the dancing, and the eating of course. Despite the subject matter, one can’t deny that the Riddim is a chance to bring back parts of our culture that is sometimes lost in the mainstream, and an opportunity to educate listeners and viewers. When was the last time you went to a “Dead Yaad“? Remember the Mannish Wata? R.I.P. to the Goat.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Taiye Ft. Red Rat & Dahzee – Nani Naki Nana (2006)

May is recognized as “Child Month“. During this time on “Oldies Sunday“, we highlight some of our former Child stars. Many of our favourites started out in their much younger day, and either found success then, or it helped to develop their careers later in life. Today, we go back into time to check out Taiye, and her track, “Nani Naki Nana (or Naki Na Na)” .

Produced by Jah Snowcone on the “Applause/Mo’Applause Riddim” and released through Jah Snowcone Records/Rat-A-Kastle Records in 2006, it was all about learning with Taiye, her friend Dahzee, and her Father, Dancehall Artist Red Rat in, “Nani Naki Nana”. From encouraging kids to go to school, to promoting learning, to having manners and respect, it was all about being the best you can be in this fun collaboration. The song was carried by the catchy chant of “Nani Naki Nana”, and it resulted in the song becoming popular among the youth, it enjoyed radio airplay in Jamaica and parts of the world, and was welcomed in various schools. Red Rat took the opportunity to make a kid-friendly song as his daughter (whose Mother is Recording Artist Italee) showed interest in being a part of the Entertainment Industry. “Nani Naki Nana” was featured on the compilation project, “Mo’Applause” in 2007. The song was also sampled by International Recording Artist Christina Aguilera for her 2010 single “Monday Morning“, but was not credited.

Since the release of “Nani Naki Nana”, Red Rat continued his career which saw more music releases, and even more International bookings. Taiye went on to start a music career in her adult years, and released the single, “Leaving” under the stage name Taiye Takina in 2025. Not much is known of Dahzee at this time. “Nani Naki Nana” still connects with the kids who were introduced to the song back then. One has shared she nicknamed her sister after the song, others shared that they still play it to this day. It has also gained some popularity on Social Media recently.

THANK YOU TAIYE, RED RAT, AND DAHZEE FOR THIS HIT!

T’Jean Holds The Order In “Pretender”

There is a fire that is burning, and Reggae Artist T’Jean is one of the keepers of the fire to ensure it won’t die. Deep Jahi Shares The “Raw Truth” On New Single

On the outside, Recording Artist Deep Jahi looks like an accomplished Artist, but on the inside he has dealt with a lot in his career. While he has enjoyed some high moments, he has dealt with false starts, bad deals, and conflicts with former peers, and those he believed had the best interest in him. What won’t be taken away is his talent, and he continues to showcase that in his over a decade career. Sometimes he deals with issues internally, but today, he delivers the “Raw Truth“.

Produced by Kholtan Entertainment and Tepa Music, Deep Jahi puts his thoughts and feelings into a song, and shares with the world in, “Raw Truth”. The Artist reflects on his beginnings as an Artist, some of the trials he has faced during his start, and despite winning Magnum Kings and Queens Of Dancehall, having a fanbase and a number of popular singles to his name, he’s still not at the level he’s supposed to be. He shares a failed alliance with Serani, conflicts with TJ Records, Vybz Kartel, and Bugle, and he speaks from a place where he was hopeful for some great opportunities with them, and understandably he shares his displeasure. He is not without making the wrong choices as well, and he thinks on what would’ve happened had he not pursued music, and heeded to his Mother’s wishes. Many Artists have gone by the wayside due to a number of reasons, and if you hear it from the streets, Deep Jahi is an underrated Artist, and he doesn’t go out of his way to cause problems. He can only be honest, he will be met with opposition, but it’s his life. Let the truth be set free.
