Jamaica has a vast collection of sounds that have contributed to many of your favourite pieces of music around the world. With genres like Dancehall, Reggae, Ska, and Mento, Jamaica has influenced many. Speaking of Mento, the world-renowned The Jolly Boys Mento band tapped into a classic for the newest release called, “Day-O“.

Produced by Dale Virgo and Jon Baker, The Jolly Boys teamed up with the Nexus Performing Arts Company to cover the classic Jamaican Folk Song, which was also known around the world as the “Banana Boat Song“. The song gained worldwide recognition through Trinidadian Singer Edric Connor, Jamaican Folklorist Louise Bennett-Coverley, and Jamaican-American Singer/Actor Harry Belafonte, who made the best known version. The Rick Elgood-directed music video that accompanies “Day-O” pays tribute to Belafonte along with Albert Minott, Joseph “Powda” Bennett, and Derrick “Jonny” Henry, who were former members of The Jolly Boys.

A little bit of Jamaican Culture from the past here. Something to appreciate, something to share with others. Long live The Jolly Boys, and may those who are no longer with us find eternal rest.

Dupss Teams Up With @DaleVirgo For “Every Gal”

Kingston-based DZL Records continues to keep its production line moving with a number of music releases over the past few months. Label founder Dale “Dizzle” Virgo keeps his ear to the street when it comes to securing the right talent for his beats, and at the end, listeners from around the world keep the music on heavy rotation. Nothing has changed since, but with Dancehall Artist Dupss on the scene, this summer’s going to be interested thanks to their collaboration called, “Every Gal“.

“Every Gal” is a demonstration of slick lyrics, a speedy flow, and some of Dale Virgo’s unique production. Dupss brags a bit about his ability to get any girl he desires, and keeps the listener paying attention to his every word. “Every Gal” looks to be a single that will find its way to various outlets in the coming weeks, and if you aren’t familiar with Dupss, today is the today discover this Artist, and what his catalogue’s about. Kingston-based DZL Records is ready to keep the vibe going for the rest of 2022. The label, owned by Producer Dale “Dizzle” Virgo, has been a part of many great music releases in the past few years. Despite the Jamaican music scene dealing with a few controversies currently, Dale and DZL Records aim to stay consistent, and tap into the audience that are here for great entertainment. The label moves forward with the new “Dirt Riddim” compilation.

Featuring 7 tracks, the new “Dirt Riddim” compilation project is a showcase of some of Jamaica’s best lyricists. The “Dirt Riddim” finds Dale Virgo in his element, providing a landscape of sound that instantly compliments any Artist who records on it. DZL Records secured a solid lineup for the new compilation, and they include D.A.Jay, Ce’cile, Scantana, Devin Di Dakta, Medzz, Dupss, and Starr Dane. The Artists covered a range of topics, exhibiting great lyricism and delivery to make “Dirt Riddim” a standout release, with the possibility of becoming one of the year’s best compilations. Music videos and other special content in support of the “Dirt Riddim” compilation are expected to follow in the weeks after its release through Dub Corner, a subsidiary of DZL Records.

DZL Records is a Kingston based Record Label that came into prominence in the 2010s and was founded by Dale Virgo. The label is home to releases by Kim Nain, Devin Di Dakta, and Ce’cile to name a few. Notable hits from the label include, “Mama” by Christopher Martin, “Goodie Goodie” by Scantana, “Soldier Love” by Ikaya, and “Somewhere” by Chronixx.

Recording Artist D.A.Jay has been busy taking his talents to various parts of the world, steadily building his movement in the process. The years have been good to him and his career, and his music has inspired many, thanks to the positive and uplifting messages he delivers. Ready to take things to another level, D.A.Jay is gearing up to release the new album, “Polarity 2”.

“Polarity 2” is the long-awaited follow up to his 2018 “Polarity” album, and it will be his latest release since the 2019 “Invincible” EP. Fans can expect D.A.Jay’s 3rd album to deliver great content, with the Artist tapping into new sounds and subject matter that will surprise listeners, but make for a solid body of work. The album will be produced entirely by Dale “Dizzle” Virgo of DZL Records, further cementing their friendship, and knack for making great music together. “Polarity 2” will also feature a collaboration with Dancehall/Reggae Artist Agent Sasco, who previously appeared on his “Invincible” EP. 

“This new project is one of my favourites,” D.A.Jay shared. “I called it ‘Polarity 2’ because it’s me trying to be transparent to my fans, showing both sides of my thoughts. I was honest with myself in the Recording Booth. I know I have fans from day one who will be shocked and maybe a little confused by some of the new content, but I assure you my aspirations as an Artist remains the same. In the end, everything will all make sense. To my new fans, I say welcome. Follow me on this journey while I put together pieces of a puzzle, and you’ll get to see the big picture in the end.”

D.A.Jay started his career as a Gospel Artist, and has extended his songwriting skills for various Artists including Dancehall Artist Bounty Killa. D.A.Jay has been working with Dale “Dizzle” Virgo since 2004, and the connection resulted in numerous releases that have done well locally, and Internationally. Dale “Dizzle” Virgo is a multiplatinum Producer who resides in Kingston, and is the mind and muscle behind DZL Records. Dale Virgo has worked with the likes of Rihanna, Drake, Christopher Martin, Ikaya, and Chronixx, and has aided in the development of Artists like Kim Nain, Devin Di Dakta, Scantana, Senita Mogul, and many others.

D.A.Jay’s “Polarity 2” album will be released on September 23 on all Digital Music Streaming platforms through DZL Records. Earlier this year, Recording Artist/Choreographer Kalyra teamed up with Brush 1 Chromatic, DBurnz, and Shaddoh Blackz teamed up for the single, “One Wine“. Released in celebration of the reopening of Jamaica’s Entertainment Sector, the Dale Virgo and Elisha Ellis produced track has been making its round, assisting in bringing the vibe wherever it’s being played. Fast forward to this weekend, and we now have the official music video.

Directed by Adrian Campbell, Kalyra, Brush 1, DBurnz, and Shaddoh all bring the vibe to your screen for the “One Wine” video. Featuring a few dancers who you could catch a moves from, Kalyra showing off her style through various outfit changes, and everyone partying it up in the club throughout the clip, we are enjoying the track all over again and rocking away. While many have been vocal about the reopening, many Artists are looking forward to reconnect with the fans, and get back on platforms that they have been away from. One Artist who is ready to get things going in upcoming Recording Artist/Actress/Choreographer Kalyra. She celebrates with the release of her new single, “One Wine“!

Produced by Dale Virgo and Elisha Ellis, “One Wine” is the energetic and feel-good combination of Kalyra, DBurnz, Shaddoh Blackz, and Brush1Chromatic. The Artists are ready to take over your speakers with this one, and we expect the track to be in regular rotation in the coming weeks. Inspired by the then impending reopening of the Entertainment Sector, a song was needed with Kalyra in mind that celebrated the reopening.
