OLDIES SUNDAY: Conrad Crystal – True Love (1986)

First off, shout out to all the real Fathers on “Father’s Day”!

A few days ago, we lost another Jamaican Icon. Conrad Crystal, a Singer who definitely had a few children in music along with his own, passed away. On today’s “Oldies Sunday“, we pay tribute to a Man who had a voice that commanded the stage. We go back in time to check out, “True Love“.

Produced by Michael Jeffers and released through the Thunder Bolt Label in 1986, Conrad Crystal sings about two hearts finding their way back to each other in, “True Love”. He reflects on the bond he has with his lady, the conflicts they may have had, and despite them parting ways before, they found their way back to each other. In the end, real love never dies. “True Love” quickly found popularity after its release, and was loved in the homes, and in the streets, becoming a massive hit for the Singer. The single was featured on his 1988 debut album of the same name, and continued to win over fans over the years through live performances, and performances on various Sound Systems. It even got new life in the 2000s when Sugar Roy collaborated with Conrad Crystal on a new version of the track.

Since the release of “True Love”, Conrad Crystal went on to release more music, but they never surpassed the success of “True Love”. Sadly, Crystal passed away on June 17 at the age of 61 after a battle with Cancer. “True Love” still gets plenty love today, and his contributions will not be forgotten.

Start your Friday with a boost courtesy of our newest entry today! GRAMMY-winning Recording Artist Original Koffee made a return to the scene last year with the single, “KOFFEE“. While many believed she would be flooding the streets with new music, she is moving with strategy here, and it has been working out. The demands grow and the anticipation is heavy for new content, and we know the music will connect. Today, Original Koffee gives us something to talk about with the new single, “Rapid Fyah“.

Produced by Onugba Enojo Paul/EJ Fya/Isatta Sheriff Cesay and released through Promised Land Recordings, Original Koffee calls up Skillibeng for the single, “Rapid Fyah”. The Lyricists step out strong here as they take on the beat in an attacking form with rapid flows and lyrics that will have many rewinding. Many are familiar with Skilli’s various flows, and Koffee gets in the zone here, giving us ideas that these two could do a project together. With a music video directed by Yoni Lappin, we get various shots of Jamaican life with a look into living spaces, the Band culture, Horse Racing, Bike life, and the music culture. During the highlights, Original Koffee and Skillibeng go in on their verses, and we get an overall clean visual. Will this release mean even more is on the way for this year? Stay tuned.

Hope Vocals Channels Her Ancestors For Her “Kumina Medley”

You thought it was over? No, the “Hill & Gully” agenda is still active, and more people are paying attention. Yes it has come under fire thanks to the lyrical content from a number of Artists, but even in the mud, there’s something positive emerging from it. Today, one of the more anticipated releases from the Riddim is finally here. Hope Vocals steps up with the “Kumina Medley“.

Di Genius knew he had something special when he took on the task to fully produce Hope Vocals’ “Kumina Medley”. She calls on the ancestors and her Maroon background to deliver something important that the culture needs. Even the great Fae Ellington, who criticized the early selections coming from the Riddim, is onboard with this release, as a cultural figure. Hope taps into the various proverbs and sayings that many of us grew up on, and even gets into the Maroon language for a part of the track. When we talk about culture, this should be the conversation, Jamaica has so much culture, and we need to remember and embrace it. The medley is supported by a music video directed by Shane Creative, and not only do we get a beautiful and cultural performance of the medley, but we get Hope’s backstory shared by her Mother, and a behind-the-scenes look into the creation of the “Kumina Medley”. “Hill & Gully” is on a mission to wake up the nation, and we can’t wait to see what else is in store. Dancehall Artist Squash may be serving time, but his people are still saying “Free Squash“, and his music knows no bars. With plenty music to feed the streets, he may just be out sooner than you think. While he covers a lot with his tunes, today he looks to motivate you with, “Choppa Lessons“.

Produced by Sky Bad Musiq/KDT Music/NW Records, Squash provides the tools needed for you to wuk and believe, and most certainly achieve in, “Choppa Lessons”. Despite his current situation, Squash is a success story as he took himself and others out of certain hardship. For those who wish to achieve, all you need are a few tools, and strong faith. Despite his absence, the JojoInk Designs-directed music video features a number of familiar faces including Producer Skybad, Social Media personality Tallman, and Dancehall Artist Top Banks, who has been promoting “Choppa Lessons” via a preview for a number of months (and is name-dropped on the track). Nigy Boy Wants A Woman Who’s “Bad Like Dat”

The summer belongs to many Artists, but one looks to claim it all for himself. For a number of years, Nigy Boy has been controlling the scene with a number of singles, and for every other popular Riddim, he’s there in the compilation. He currently holds a high position on the “Hill & Gully Riddim“, but aims to stand out even more on this new release. Check out, “Bad Like Dat“.

Produced by Johnny Wonder/Adde Instrumentals on the “Fuego Riddim“, Nigy Boy has his senses set on that special Woman in, “Bad Like Dat”. The “Blind Casanova” continues to pursue the lovely ladies, but there will be one who always holds his attention the longest. He shares his admiration for that Woman in a visual directed by Simeon Di Great, and he’s very hands-on with her. Ever seen a blind Man conduct a photoshoot? Only Nigy can do this. The summer’s hot, the Riddim’s fuego, and Nigy Boy will keep the tunes burning up the streets, and speakers.

We really don’t know what someone is going through. On the outside they may the happiest, most cheerful person who is the life of the party, but on the inside they’re fighting demons, or going through something very serious. Despite his aggressive and too cool persona sometimes, Witty has his challenges, just like everybody else. Some mask them through vices, he decides to put them in a song. In the end, he’s searching for his “Paradise“.

Produced by Dethwrld, Witty vents a bit in, “Paradise”. He makes observations on the people in his life and travels, leaning on vices to mask his troubles, seeing people for who they are, and just finding his way out. ShotByDeth takes on directorial duties along for the accompanying Visualizer, and “Paradise” looks to be another favourite for fans of Witty as he continues to pursue Rock Dancehall.
