Dancehall Artist Malie Donn is on top of the world. Since his breakout single “V6“, he has been in demand locally, and overseas, and he has managed to maintain a presence. While he has gotten into a few beefs, the fans have been supportive of every move, and they get rewarded with new music. He feels like the chosen one in Dancehall. You can say, like his debut album, he is “The Golden Child“.
Featuring 21 tracks, Malie Donn crosses a new level in his career with the release of “The Golden Child” album. Known for the gritty street singles and the girl tunes that find him at his raunchiest, they are present on this album as he uses the moment to showcase why he is an in-demand Artist. With a heavy tracklist, fans won’t be complaining, and the tracks come at a time where the rotation will be regular. Production on “The Golden Child” includes the likes of Attomatic Records, Daniel Wahlberg, Godfrey Whittaker, DJ Frass, Darius Bailey, Robert Salkey, and Hemton Music, while Byron Messia, Antuwang, Javo Donn, and Squash make appearances on the much-anticipated project. Malie Donn may not be the kid from Tibet, but he may have the abilities to cause a massive shift in the scene. There goes the chosen one.

The streets needed more music from Manchester-based Deejay Raw Cashh, and he worked on delivering it. The past few months found him connecting with his fanbase, but controversy followed as well. Overall, he stayed working, and states still mad. Recently, he dropped more music in the form of the new EP, “Diamond In The Rough“.
Featuring 8 tracks, Raw Cashh keeps the streets busy with the release of the “Diamond In The Rough” EP. It’s still all about getting to the money, the fast life, and something for the ladies to enjoy. The Deejay provides the soundtrack for the hustlers, and you can expect the beasts to skate on the highway to a few of these tracks. Brainfreeze Records and BadNice Records collaborate on the production throughout, and Malie Donn is the sole guest feature on the project. Keep this one in rotation.

We have officially crossed the half mark of the 2020s, and a lot has happened. In Jamaica’s music scene, many new Artists and movements emerged, some fell by the wayside just as quickly as they get the break, and others never made it to the 2020s for one reason or another. We remember those who passed away, and may their music and works live on. In remembering the first half of the 2020s, we look back at a few songs that made impact in the 2020s so far. These songs may have officially given the Artists their big break, rejuvenated a career or few, set Social Media and the streets on fire, and crossed over to the International market. Here are 10 of them in no particular order.
2022 was a year for Dancehall Artist Valiant. While he was building his career for a number of years, his name got the people’s attention thanks to a TikTok video. The video, which found him dressed in Ralph Lauren, gave the birth to the phrase, “Kotch E Hat A lie?“, which found life on Social Media thanks to various posts using the sound. From there, Valiant would capitalize off the buzz with singles like “St. Mary” and “North Carolina“. Those singles enjoyed love in the streets, but it was the Tarick-produced “Dunce Cheque” that took over households, and took flight to various parts of the world. The music video quickly hit over 1 Million views in a couple days, the single overall scored streaming numbers in the millions while securing a place in Dancehall and Social Media, and caused a few controversies thanks to the rise of the “Dunce” movement. Valiant officially became a star, and he keeps the fire going in 2026.
In 2020, people were made aware of an upcoming Dancehall Artist named, Skeng. The Spanish Town native was armed with aggressive lyrics and a presence that would unleash brimstone if he was approached the wrong way. He started to make noise with the gun-toting single “Brrp“, but it was his 2021 release “Gvnman Shift” that would open up the gates for him. His stance as an Intellectual who carefully detailed his badness throughout, placed him on the forefront of Dancehall music. The John Coop/DiTruth-produced “Gvnman Shift” enjoyed viral success, and even had kids in Basic School/Kindergarten reciting the lyrics word for word. Skeng became a star in the 2020s, with hit singles quickly following, and he successfully crossed over to the overseas market thanks to his collaborations with Rapper Nicki Minaj. Ay BWOY!
2025 has been a year so far for Dancehall Artist Squash. Despite remaining consistent with the music, his troubles with the Law were getting in the way. Earlier this year he was detained on a number of charges in Florida, and he’s currently fighting his situation. While his fans scream for his freedom, he finds an escape with the music through his new EP, “Hate Being Famous“.
Squash understands what can come with fame paired with the street life, and his new “Hate Being Famous” EP taps into some of what he has been through in this life. The 9 track EP features dark themes, painting a picture of what he’s dealing with. Production on “Hate Being Famous” is handled by 6ix Real Records, Hemton Music, and Salkey Records with features from Byron Messia and Malie Donn. Many are saying “Free Squash” till it’s backwards now, despite a new project out, the Deejay is fighting for a better life.
