Trini Recording Artist Roy Simmons returns with something for your ears. He has been staying busy since his last release in 2022, and waiting for the right time to bring them into the light. Thankfully, he was included on the recently released “The Good Things Riddim” with the single, “Fallin’“.

Produced by Kedon Charles, Roy Simmons shares why getting caught up with him can be a bad thing in “Fallin'”. Simmons shares that while you may have a few amazing moments with him, it’s not permanent, so don’t start planning your life with him. He understands that he has an effect on the ladies, but what they’re experiencing with him is not love. He’s not taking responsibility for your misguided thoughts and actions, just keep it moving. Kedon Charles’ new Riddim also features other prominent Artists, and has been gaining a lot of attention since its release. Expect more from Roy Simmons later this year.

She started the year and this month with a collaboration with DJ Rose Gold, but now she’s all about some matters of the heart. She releases her new single, “That Boy Is Mine“.

Produced by ODZZ and UGYN, Alex Mali is in attack mode in “That Boy Is Mine”. When it comes to her Man, she’s not about that sharing business. She fends off the Women who think they can easily snatch him away, and she’s protecting what’s hers from the watchy watchy girls. In a society where taking another person’s partner is welcomed, and celebrated by some, Mali doesn’t have any time for that, and she will get aggressive. Follow her advice, you’re not Brandy nor Monica, so go find your own person. The new single comes just a few days after her birthday (March 21), and we can expect the red (previously green)-haired Singer to deliver even more music in the coming months. OLDIES SUNDAY: Lord Hummingbird – Teenage Bossa Nova Girl (1963)

Music has always been the topic of discussion, and with it has brought on numerous trends and movements. Many individuals have stepped up to make their contributions, becoming a part of History in the process. For today’s Oldies Sunday selection, we go back a few decades, and to the twin Island of Trinidad and Tobago to check out Albert Ribeiro a.k.a. Lord Hummingbird and his Orchestra for the track, “Teenage Bossa Nova Girl“.

“Teenage Bossa Nova Girl” was released through Hummingbird Records in 1963, Lord Hummingbird shared his observations sparked by the rapid growth of the “Bossa Nova” musical movement, especially with the youth. It was encouraged to dance to the “Bossa Nova” sound, and the new sound was like nothing being played out there. Originated in Brazil in the 1950s, “Bossa Nova” is described as a relaxed style of Samba Music that blended harmonies, Classicial Guitar, Drums and Percussion, making it an extension of the Samba sound. Thanks to a few Musicians and the Film “Black Orpheus“, “Bossa Nova” created waves in South America, eventually taking over more territories, influencing generations of Musicians. Hummingbird, a Calypsonian Artist, tapped into the “Bossa Nova” sound, and made it a part of his overall sound, making him a dominant force.

“Teenage Bossa Nova Girl” quickly became a hit for Hummingbird, and helped to bring his name to more parts of the world. For those still here, Albert Ribeiro is the Grandfather of Alfonso Ribeiro, Actor and Dancer most famously known for his role as Carlton Banks in “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air“. He is currently the main Host of “Dancing With The Stars“.

Not much is known about Lord Hummingbird, but since the release of “Teenage Bossa Nova Girl”, Lord Hummingbird went on to release more music. “Teenage Bossa Nova Girl” remains his most well-known release.

It’s that time of year when Ham is being sold for record-high prices, and crates of Sodas and Beers are being ordered. It’s Christmas time on Oldies Sunday. In Trinidad and Tobago, Parang is recognized (this year celebrates 45 years of Soca Parang), and for today’s selection, we go there to check out Scrunter’s “De Parang Now Start“.

Produced by Earl Crosby and released through JW Production, Scrunter celebrates the Christmas season in “De Parang Now Start”. Backed by great production, Scrunter shares lyrics about what Christmas time means to him, what is expected during the season, and invites everyone to partake and have fun. This track will have you dancing throughout, and if this doesn’t give you fond thoughts, you’re not listening hard enough. “De Parang Now Start” quickly became a popular track, and was featured on the compilation album, “A Decade Of Scrunter: De Parang Now Start“.

Scrunter is still active in music, and has been hailed as the “King Of Soca Parang“. It was rumoured last year of his passing, but he is still making his rounds, and showing up for Parang. Stay tuned to this platform for another holiday offering on Oldies Sunday!
