In recognition of Mother’s Day, today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from Dancehall artist, Merciless. Titled “Mama’s Cooking” and produced by Harvel Hart and Delroy Schobourgh on the “Redemption Song” Riddim in 1996, Merciless speaks on his love for his mother, her culinary skills and highlights all the other good things that she has done for him. He also speaks about people who have disrespected their own mothers and hopes never to be like them.
“Mama’s Cooking” became one of Merciless’ popular songs and belongs in a very long list of Dancehall/Reggae songs that show respect to one’s mother. The production also borrows from Bob Marley’s popular “Redemption Song” single. Along with “Mama’s Cooking“, Merciless also released more singles over the years and also was dubbed “WarHead” as he was a contender in various lyrical beefs with fellow Dancehall artists. Many people out love their moms and like Merciless, love her cooking as well.
Thank You Merciless for this memorable tune and Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers.
