Happy Mother’s Day! From the Mama to the Aunty, to the Grandma, to the Foster Mom, to the Step Mom, you are appreciated! To show some appreciation, we pulled up this selection from Dub Poet, Yasus Afari titled, “My Mother Who Fathered Me“. Produced by Yasus for the Fathers Africa and Senya-Cum Labels in 1995, the Dub Poet expresses his love for the one he calls, “Mama”. From his birth, to being a man, he speaks on the times his Mother was there for him and other siblings. He also mentions her qualities and the efforts she’s made to ensure the family is good. The single was also a part of his “Honour Crown H.I.M.” album that was released in 1997.
13th Street Promotions wishes every Mother out there a Happy Mother’s Day!
It’s never too late to show appreciation to your Mother for all she has done and today Rapper Dylan Golden does just that. Titled “If I Told You” which features Singer Kamau and produced by Jamaican producer Kris Kars, Dylan makes a dedication to his Mother, speaks on growing up with her, how she has been there for him even when he messed up and how he wants to give back for all she has done. A good effort here from Dylan, great production from Kris and I like that chorus that Kamau provided. This deserves to be played to your Mom anytime so keep this track handy. Show Mom that love! It’s only natural when an offspring of an entertainer wants to follow in their parents’ footsteps. On Onstage over the weekend, Marco Dean, son of D’Angel and Beenie Man joined his mom on Onstage to speak on his plans for Mother’s Day. Here the 8 year old spoke about School, making something for his mother for Mother’s Day, not wanting to follow the footsteps of his mom and dad, and being an active kid. D’Angel also spoke about her career, enjoying her son’s growth, being a “Momtrepreneur“, closing down her clothing business to focus on her career and motherhood, being an actress and her upcoming film, and future plans. This was a hilarious interview as Marco Dean is just being a kid here, it’s good to know that Beenie and D’Angel are working hard to be loving and supporting parents. In recognition of Mother’s Day, today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from Dancehall artist, Merciless. Titled “Mama’s Cooking” and produced by Harvel Hart and Delroy Schobourgh on the “Redemption Song” Riddim in 1996, Merciless speaks on his love for his mother, her culinary skills and highlights all the other good things that she has done for him. He also speaks about people who have disrespected their own mothers and hopes never to be like them.
While many are spending the day with their moms, many aren’t so fortunate to have that opportunity. Today Bounty Killa dedicates his new single to his late mother, Miss Ivy. Titled “Mama (Gone But Not Forgotten)” and produced by Digital One Productions, Bounty recalls the moments he had with his mother and promises to live and pass on the lessons he was taught and thanks her for being around. Not a bad song here, I hope this uplifts many who no longer have their moms around. Check out the song below and share your thoughts in the comments section.
