Matthew Malcolm Speaks On Life In “Seaview” On New Single

No matter where we are in the world, we always remember where we’re coming from. From hardships, to luxurious lifestyles, many of our backgrounds vary in society, but we carry forward memories, life-changing events, cherished moments, sacred bonds, and trauma as well. For Recording Artist/Actor Matthew Malcolm, he reflects on home. He shares a song about it called, “Seaview“.

Produced by Urban Villah and released through Dubshot Records, Matthew Malcolm shares a visual of life that is lived by many in “Seaview”. It’s a place where many birthed their ambitions and later achieved them, a place where many joyous times happened, a place where dark days and cold nights seem like they will never end, where many found ways and means to survive, and sadly where hope came, and died. Malcolm sheds light on people suffering in the community, the injustice many face, and even shares his thoughts on another community thousands of miles away that has its own share of hardship and injustice. This is not a dancing song, this is reality, and Matthew Malcolm uses his voice to bring awareness. Take a listen to this one.

.@Acmatic Returns With “Betrayed”

In the year 2026, Jamaican Alternative collective Acmatic returns to the scene. Known for delivering music that’s far from the norm, Acmatic found their way into a number of prominent events, and received co-signs from the likes of Major Lazer, and various members of the music community locally, and regionally. What was once a hefty crew over the years is now down to two members, co-founders King Lopo, and Plateface. Ready to face the world fresh off of an hiatus, we get the new single, “Betrayed“.

For Acmatic’s first release since 2019, Plateface handles the production on “Betrayed“, while King Lopo sheds light on an experience of Infidelity. The duo share a pain that is relatable to many, but the high energy House/Garage-inspired production aims to give the listener the boost to overcome it, the song is done in a manner similar to Hip Hop or Dancehall tracks that speak on violence or gruesome situations, but the production keeps you entertained. Acmatic was never a group that was boxed in, and “Betrayed” is just one of many singles that will make their return a well-needed one. Welcome back to the fold.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Luis Días & Sonia Silvestre – Baila En La Calle (1984)

The month of February is recognized as Dominican Heritage Month. The month (January 27-February 27) honors those born in the Dominican Republic, and of Dominican descent in the United States, who have contributed to the community as well as made cultural achievements. The month ends on the Country’s Independence Day celebrations. Today on “Oldies Sunday“, we recognize an Individual who made significant contributions to the musical development of the Dominican Republic. This Man is known as the “Father of Dominican Rock“, but many know him as Luis Días a.k.a. “El Terror“. Today, we check out, “Baila En La Calle (Carnaval)“.

Arranged by Jorge Taveras and featuring Sonia Silvestre, “Baila En La Calle (Dance In The Street)” was Luis Días’ way of building unity, promoting positive vibes, and enjoy good times in the Dominican Republic. Released through Secretaria De Estado de Turismo in 1984 (but premiered in 1983), Días was commissioned to compose a theme song for the 1984 staging of the Dominican Carnival. The release was a success, and it quickly gained popularity in the Country, and in the diaspora, prompting a number of covers over the years, including one made famous by fellow Dominican, Fernando Villalona. Días would receive a national award from the Government of the Dominican Republic for his composition, and it would go on to be sampled by Wyclef Jean and Shakira for their classic collaboration, “Hips Don’t Lie“.

Since the release of “Baila En La Calle”, Luis Días would go on to be a cultural figure. He composed hundreds of songs that would later on be covered by numerous Artists, he composed music for a number of Films, worked with UNICEF and various Government entities, and was considered a “National Cultural Patrimony” in his homeland before his passing in 2009. “Baila En La Calle” is still played and covered to this day. Big up the Dominican Republic!

THANK YOU LUIS DÍAS FOR THIS TIMELESS HIT!
