Today, Recording Artist Shatta Wale (formerly known as Bandana) celebrates his 35th birthday, and we salute his greatness with our latest Playlist called, “The African Dancehall King“.

Where are the Gamers? Recently, popular Racing Simulation series “Need For Speed” released their latest Video Game titled, “NFS Heat“! For those who are into Cars of all makes along with Nitro-burning speed, this one is sure to be a great addition to your collection. Along with the game comes a pretty heavy soundtrack that features Jamaica’s own DeeWUNN, Kabaka Pyramid, and Konshens on the tracks, “Back It Up, Drop It” (ft. Leo Justi), “Murder Music” (ft. Chase & Status), and “Reload” (ft. Eve) respectively. The soundtrack also features music from the likes of Latin Artists Zion Y Lennox, Toro Y Moi, and Alvaro Diaz, and Afrobeats Artist Burna Boy.

While these Artists are no strangers to being featured on various soundtracks over the years, they join the many who have had placements on the soundtracks for games like “Grand Theft Auto V” and the NBA 2K series. “NFS Heat” will be released on November 8, but check out the official Playlist below. Jamaican Producer Izy Beats is on a roll. Having lent his sound to Artists like Tarrus Riley, Koffee, Popeye Caution, and David Lyn, he has been enjoying quite the buzz in the past few months as a result of that. Recently, he along with UK Producer Cadenza, teamed up with Pop Artist Jorja Smith and Afrobeats Artist Burna Boy for the hit, “Be Honest“. While it’s enjoying its run on various music charts, Izy Beats got in front of the camera to give viewers his beat breakdown. Presented by Universal Music Publishing Group, Izy gave us the BTS look at the many elements that make that sweet production.

With 2018 seeing him produce Koffee’s smash hit, “Toast“, Izy has been on a run of producing some dope things. From working with Charly Black, to working with Vybz Kartel, to releasing an EP with Tarrus Riley, to working with US R&B Artist Neyo, Izy Beats adds UK Pop star Jorja Smith to his resumé with the track, “Be Honest“! Featuring Burna Boy and co-production with UK Producer Cadenza, we get a fun track filled with Dancehall and Afrobeat influences, and Jorja and Burna showing great chemistry.

Recently, UK Recording Artist Mahalia released her Burna Boy featured single, “Simmer“. Today, we show respect to the sample. Going into Playlist Mode yet again, we look back at the “Playground Riddim” in our #13thStreetThrowback Playlist Series! The Riddim was released in 1997 and produced by Jeremy Harding for his 2 Hard Label. It birthed the classics “Nike Air” by Mr. Vegas, “Pet & Pamper” by Mad Cobra, “Infiltrate” by Sean Paul, and the mega hit, “Who Am I” a.k.a. “Sim Simma“ by Beenie Man! The Riddim was also sampled by UK Artists Krept & Konan, US Rapper Bizzy Bone, and UK DJ/Producer Spooky Bizzle.

The season’s pretty hot, but you’re gonna need to cool down when UK Recording Artist/Actress Mahalia’s new tune drops! Teaming up with Nigeria Afrobeats Artist Burna Boy, they release “Simmer“! Produced by Jonah Christian and Felix Joseph, the Artists get into some relationship talk over a very familiar sample. Taking its place as an instantly recognizable sound is Jamaican Producer Jeremy Harding’s 1997 “Playground Riddim“! Released through the 2 Hard label, the Riddim featured Sean Paul’s “Infiltrate“, Cobra’s “Pet and Pamper“, Mr. Vegas’ “Nike Air“, and Beenie Man’s “Who Am I” a.k.a. “Sim Simma“!
