OLDIES SUNDAY: Double Ugly – Seven Hero Dance (1992)

The Month of October in Jamaica recognizes the heritage of the Island, and the heroes who fought for freedom. On Monday October 20, the Island celebrates “Heroes’ Day“, and awards various members of society with National Honours at King’s House. Today on “Oldies Sunday“, we want to give some people a reminder of our National Heroes. Today, we highlight Recording Artist Double Ugly, and the track, “Seven Hero Dance“.

Produced by Courtney Cole, and released through Roof International in 1992, Double Ugly reminded the people of our National Heroes in, “Seven Hero Dance”. Double observed back then that people were only namedropping a couple of National Heroes, and made it his duty to refresh their memory. With the uptempo production, we got an energetic track that got the people dancing while being educated. “Seven Hero Dance” gained some popularity soon after release, and was featured on the Compilation project, “Rooftop Skanking“, which was distributed through RUNNetherlands Music.

Double Ugly went on to release more music after the release of “Seven Hero Dance”. For some time some confused him with Dancehall Artist Ninja Man as “Double Ugly” was Ninja’s original stage name before the change, even though they sound nothing alike in their releases. Relationships are great, but can be the worst thing ever when there is disloyalty. It doesn’t matter the circumstance, when a partner experiences “bun” or cheating, it’s not a good feeling. Some may take it in stride, others will react in ways that can get very bad. Nobody deserves to be betrayed. Speaking of “bun”, Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor sheds light on the topic in, “Bigger Than Bun“.

Di Genius has been consistent these past few months providing songs that are relatable and entertaining, and recently he tackled the topic of cheating in, “Bigger Than Bun”. The claim is nobody is exempt from being cheated on. No matter how loyal someone says they are, no matter how effort is given for the relationship, there are some pretty messed up people in the world who are weak to every beck and call, and just don’t believe in staying faithful to one partner. The title serves as something to know, even the richest person in the world can’t stop his partner from stepping out of the relationship. Lady Leshurr is a legend. Since the 2010s, she has been at the forefront of UK Hip Hop representing for the lyricists, and holding her own in a Male-dominated scene. Even when she had down times, she’d step up ready to flood the scene with lyrics. Recently, she showed love to a future legend, Jamaica and Haiti’s own Ayetian. Sharing her love for his single, “Wah Yo Deh Pan” which features Govana, she did what any other Artist would do, and that’s add her own flair to the viral track. Since then, she has been enjoying her own viral moment with the officially-released, “FUBU“.

With a self-directed Music Video, Lady Leshurr gets into a lyrical exercise under her alter ego, “Skunt” on, “FUBU”. Showing love Ayetian and his popular single, Leshurr waves her Kittitian flag proudly and drops lyrics about her pen game, her sex appeal, and overall having a good time over the Nvtzz production. The track was previewed on Social Media over the past few weeks, gaining viral love, with fans asking for the official release. The video was shot in the UK, and features some dancing throughout the city, and some good vibes that is sure to capture the viewer. Lady Leshurr recently joined Ayetian on stage at one of his London events, and the possibility of official collaborations is closer to a reality. With a couple collaborations out, they show that they can make music that brings their fanbases together. With this month being “Spooky Season“, they drop the video for their new collab called, “Murderer“.

Directed by DJuvii for Now Or Never, Tommy Lee Sparta and Trippie Redd bring the badness in the video for, “Murderer”. The dark visual is filled with guns and Women, and this is a different kind of Island trip for Trippie Redd. “Murderer” was previewed recently, and fans of the Artists could not wait for the collab to finally drop. Tommy Lee is definitely no stranger to working with Rappers, and he further seals his International connections. We really need them to drop a project together (and we say that while still waiting on the Sparta Boss to release an all-Rock project). Big 1400 and the Spartan King meet again.
