.@DaleVirgo Turns Up The Tempo With “Sunset Blvd”

For a number of years, Jamaican-born/LA-based Producer Dale Virgo has provided the sound for many of your favourite Artists. Under his DZL Records, he has produced hits for the likes of Christopher Martin, Ce’Cile, Chronixx, and many others. Having taken his talents to the US in recent time, he has been experimenting with new sounds, and for his latest release, “Sunset Blvd“, he looks to capture the high energy crowd.

Dale Virgo leans into the EDM/House Music sound for his latest release, “Sunset Blvd”. Armed with Bass, Synths, Sonics, and great energy, Virgo is ready for the ravers, the party goers, and those who live life to the fullest with this new Instrumental. Inspired by living in the Los Angeles area, he has witnessed all walk of life, and looked to bring the energy from that to his production. He was also encouraged by fellow Producer/DJ Sizzle Hop to test his waters in new sounds, and the move looks to be a very fruitful one for him. Family is very important to Virgo, and while he knows his way around the boards, his Son Zayn, and Daughter Zahara had input on the production, and share co-production credits. We expect the Streamers to love this one, the Ravers worldwide to groove to this, and the world to open even more doors for Virgo to pursue even more.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Reel 2 Real – I Like To Move It (1993)

Ready to turn up the vibes? For today’s Oldies Sunday selection, we’re throwing a party that even the pets will enjoy. Today, we go back to the 90s to check out Colombian/Trinidadian/American duo Reel 2 Real’sI Like To Move It“.

Produced by Ralphie Muniz and 1/2 of Reel 2 Real’s Erick Morillo and released through Strictly Rhythm in 1993, “I Like To Move It” was Mark Quashie a.k.a. The Mad Stuntman a.k.a. the other 1/2 of Reel 2 Real’s showcase of deejaying over some House Music production. The high energy track was made to get the people moving and rock rooms, with Dancehall/Ragga-inspired lyrics being chanted throughout. With the line “I like to move it move it…“, listeners were in for a good time. The track was included on Reel 2 Real’s 1994 debut album, “Move It!“. “I Like To Move It” was an instant hit for ravers as it secured #1 chart placements in a number of countries including Belgium, Canada, France, Zimbabwe, The Netherlands, and the UK, and top 10 placements in even more countries. The track went on to win a number of awards over the years, went gold in Australia, France, the UK, The Netherlands, and Germany, and has been hailed as one of the best EDM, Party, and 90s songs of all time by a number of publications.

The success of “I Like To Move It” didn’t stop at just chart placements. It was remixed a number of times over the years as well. The track is one of the most frequently licensed songs, appearing on numbers of compilations yearly. It appeared in commercials for USPS, McDonalds, Durex, Jeep, Toyota, and the Fairy dishwasher brand, used in the video games “Just Dance“, “DJ Hero“, “Mario Strikers Charged“, and “SingStar Dance“, and a dance emote inspired by it appeared in “Fortnite“. It was included in a number of TV shows and Films including “American Dad!“, “New York Undercover“, and “Saving Silverman“, but it was at its most popular when it appeared in the “Madagascar” animated film franchise thanks to it being performed by the character King Julien, becoming the official theme song of the franchise. The song still holds a level of popularity to this day.

Since the release of “I Like To Move It”, Reel 2 Real went on to release more music before disbanding in 1997. Erick Morillo continued to produce and DJ until his death in 2020, while Mark Quashie continued to release more music over the years, in between performing “I Like To Move It”. Reel 2 Real owned the 90s, while their biggest hit is still making an impact.

THANK YOU REEL 2 REAL FOR THIS CLASSIC!

.@MainlyMali Wants To “Dance Now, Cry Later” Ahead Of Debut Album

Brooklyn-based Recording Artist Alex Mali has been bringing together sounds that tapped into her Caribbean background along with Hip Hop, Pop, and other genres, putting together songs that connect with the people in a great way. We’ve featured her previously, and now she looks to make one of her biggest moves, and that’s releasing her debut album. Before that however, she gives us the new single, “Dance Now, Cry Later“.

Produced by The Breed, Alex Mali is stepping away from someone who didn’t do right by her, and would rather get lost in the music now than to wallow over it. She taps into some House Music vibes here, which comes at a good time as House Music influences have been making waves in recent months. “Dance Now, Cry Later” will be featured on Mali’s debut album, “Trust The Process“, and the project promises to showcase a lot of her influences and new sounds. The album drops on August 16. If you haven’t been familiar, get to know Alex Mali.

Enur x Natasja "Calabria 2007" on 13thStreetPromotions.com #Denmark #Jamaica #Dancehall #Reggae #HouseMusic #13thStreetPromotions #Enur #Natasja #NatasjaSaad #Calabria #Calabria2007 #Oldies #2007 #OldSchool #Caribbean

OLDIES SUNDAY: Enur X Natasja Saad – Calabria 2007 (2007)

In recognition of Women’s History Month, we take the time out to feature Women who have made great contributions to our music culture. While we celebrate the Women all year over here, we recognize some through our Oldies Sunday section. For today’s selection, we head on over to Denmark for Reggae/Dancehall/Hip Hop Artist Natasja Saad’sCalabria 2007“.

Done in collaboration with Danish Producers Enur, Natasja’s “Calabria 2007” was released through Ministry Of Sound in March 2007. The track finds Natasja sharing her thoughts on a Man who is said to be “the talk of the town”. He possesses certain characteristics that have captured her attention, and they make things happen together. The track was originally released in 2003 as a House Music Instrumental, and was remixed with Dancehall sounds, and Natasja’s deejaying skills. The track was an instant success upon release, and went #1 on US Billboard Dance charts. The track was featured in a 2007 Target back to school campaign, and was remixed by Rapper MIMS, Dominican Artist Punto Rojo, Dancehall Artist Vybz Kartel, and a number of DJs and Producers.

While “Calabria 2007” was a success, Natasja Saad was not able to enjoy it in the long term as she tragically lost her life in June 2007 in Jamaica. Many still mourn her loss, and wonder what her life would’ve been like as things started to look up for her. Posthumous releases followed her death, with the final one being in 2018. Natasja made a valuable mark in the Danish and Jamaican music scenes, and “Calabria 2007” is still played around the world.

Thank You Natasja Saad, Sleep Well!
