The Month of June is recognized as “Caribbean American Heritage Month“, and on Oldies Sunday, we want to highlight a few Artists who are a part of this. Today’s selection comes from Reggae/Dancehall Artist Chuck Fenda with the single, “Jah It’s All About You“.

Produced by King Jammy’s on the “Money Money Riddim” and released through the Jammy’s label in 1996, Chuck Fenda uses his talents to give praise to Jah in “Jah It’s All About You”. Throughout the song, he shares the many things that Jah has done for him, the ways he pays back for those blessings, and shows his gratitude. Listeners are also encouraged to seek Jah because there is so much going on in the world, and the people need guidance. “Jah It’s All About You” gained some attention for Fenda following its release, and allowed him to perform the track at various events. The Music Video that accompanied the single was his first official visual, and was directed by Llewellyn “Big Daddy Leo” O’Reggio.

You know how the badness go. Harlem-based Rapper/Actor Dave East is gearing up for an eventful Summer. With a new project called, “APT 6E” on the horizon, he’s giving the people a taste of what’s to come with a number of singles. One of the singles that will peak the listener’s interest is the track called, “Dangerous Riddum“.

Produced by Mike & Keys, DJ Khalil, AC, and Dan Seeff and featuring Jamaican Music legend Shaggy, Dave East lets the listeners know on “Dangerous Riddum” that the streets can get dangerous, but he is aware of what’s going down at all times. He keeps the peace, but has a piece nearby, and a radar for when the Law is tracking him down. Shaggy steps forward with a few choice words himself, letting you know that he can be the nice guy with the multitude of hits, but if you cross him, it nah go nice. The combination of Dave East and Shaggy may be odd to some, but it works. East previously worked with the likes of Junior Reid and Popcaan, and has always made a connection with his Caribbean side (Barbados and Dominican Republic). A lil bit of melody, some New York and Jamaican badness, and a tune that will be making its rounds leading up to the release of East’s forthcoming project. NPT!

Tenor Saw’s “On Top Of The World” Sampled In @GhostfaceKillah’s “Champion Sound”

When Dancehall meets Hip Hop, it’s always a vibe. Recently, Hip Hop legend and member of the iconic Wutang Clan Ghostface Killah released his latest album, “Set The Tone“. The album is the Rapper’s 12th solo studio release, and it features a number of big names, and he taps into new and familiar sounds. One of the familiar sounds dates back to the 1980s, and it highlights one of Dancehall’s classic Vocalists.

On the track “Champion Sound” off of Ghostface Killah’s “Set The Tone” album, the late Tenor Saw’sOn Top Of The World” was sampled. The track was made as a Dubplate for the Stereo Mars Sound System, which was owned by Businessman Kenneth Black a.k.a. “Skeng Don“, and was played at a PNP (The People’s National Party) Rally in 1986. Tenor Saw had a successful music career in the 1980s and was one of the most influential voices in the early digital Reggae/Dancehall era, but his potential and life was cut short in 1988. “Champion Sound” was produced by Ghostface and Danny Caiazzo, and features US-based Dancehall Artist Beniton, who holds his own alongside the New York Hip Hop legend. Ghostface Killah’s “Set The Tone” album is out now.

Purple Disco Machine x Shenseea x Nile Rodgers "Honey Boy" on 13thStreetPromotions.com #Jamaica #Germany #NewYork #EastGermany #EDM #PopMusic #Music #13thStreetPromotions #PrupleDiscoMachine #Shenseea #NileRodgers #HoneyBoy #AliceFassi #MusicVideo #Caribbean #Europe

.@ShenYeng Teams Up With @PurpleDiscoM & @NileRodgers On “Honey Boy”

It’s Friday, so that means new music, and you’ll be dancing to this one. East German GRAMMY-winning DJ/Producer Tino Schmidt a.k.a. Purple Disco Machine is here with new music, and he brought along a couple friends. Get ready learn, “Honey Boy“.

Produced by C41 and LA/PAC, Purple Disco Machine’s “Honey Boy” features legendary Musician Nile Rodgers (of the legendary Chic band), Dancehall/Pop Artist Shenseea, and main vocals by Benjamin Ingrosso. The track speaks of a young man whose life changed when he crosses paths with a Woman who changes his life for the better. Rodgers assists the production with some great Guitar while Shenseea lends her vocals on the pre-chorus, chorus, and backing vocals throughout the track. The energy this track gives off along with the disco vibes will have listeners dancing with no hesitation, and it showcases Shenseea’s crossover appeal going in the right direction. For all the flack she has gotten for her music releases in the past few years, this is the direction I expected when Shenseea said she wanted to dabble in other genre. Accompanying the track is a Music Video directed by Alice Fassi and it shows the “Honey Boy” character morph into a Golden Boy who is the talk of the town.

Heavy D & The Boyz "Big Tyme" on 13thStreetPromotions.com #Jamaica #NewYork #MountVernon #Reggae #Dancehall #HipHop #Music #13thStreetPromotions #HeavyD #HeavyDandTheBoyz #BigTyme #MoodForLove #1989 #Caribbean

OLDIES SUNDAY: Heavy D & The Boyz – Mood For Love (1989)

On “Oldies Sunday” we celebrate the classics and the underrated gems, and we aim to bring listeners back to a time when they first enjoyed the selection, and introduce new listeners to something they’ve never heard before. Some of our Artists are Caribbean-born, some are born overseas but highly influenced by the Caribbean. For today’s selection, we highlight a Jamaican-born Artist who grew up overseas, but never left his Caribbean background behind. He is the late Recording Artist/Producer/Dancer/Actor Heavy D, and we feature the track, “Mood For Love“.

Produced by the cousins Heavy D and Pete Rock and featuring Eddie F, “TroubleT. Roy, and G-Whiz who form “Heavy D & The Boyz“, “Mood For Love” was released through MCA Records/Uptown Records in 1989. It’s all about love on “Mood For Love”, and everything good that comes along with it. The song finds Heavy D draws inspirations from Reggae/Dancehall, R&B, and Hip Hop, and delivers in a Deejay cadence with melodic parts throughout. The song also sampled Yellowman’sZungguzungguguzungguzeng” and Pat Kelly’sI’m In The Mood For Love“. Heavy D encourages love to flow on through his song, and it quickly gained popularity from many listeners. While it wasn’t officially released as a single, it was featured on Heavy D & The Boyz’s Platinum-selling sophomore album, “Big Tyme“.

Since the release of “Mood For Love”, Heavy D and his “Heavy D & The Boyz” collective went on to release more music, and enjoy more success. “Trouble” T. Roy passed away in 1990, and was the inspiration for the classic Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth track, “They  Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)“. Born in Mandeville, Manchester and raised in Mt. Vernon, New York, Heavy D become an important figure in Hip Hop, played a role in the development of a few Artists including Soul for Real, never turning his back on his roots and collaborated with the likes of Super Cat, Frankie Paul, and Buju Banton, acted in a number of Films and TV Shows, performed the Theme songs for “In Living Color” and “Madtv“, and even made hits with Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, and B.B. King. Heavy D passed away on November 8, 2011, and despite the reports, his death has been a part of a few conspiracy theories in relation to Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, who has been the target of a number of investigations over the years. “Mood For Love” remains one of Heavy D’s more memorable tunes.

Thank You Heavy D For This Classic! S.I.P.
