With a few years in the game, Florida based Recording Artist Khxos (formerly Khaos) has been releasing Dancehall tunes and gaining attention thanks to Social Media. He received a buzz that started to bubble in Summer 2015 thanks to the release of “One Touch”. Summer 2016 kept the ball rolling with his debut EP “Deception”, but collaborations with Andrew Trabass, Chargii, and Lincoln 3Dot helped to keep it blazing for the rest of the year. Early 2017 however saw his name change, and the release of “So Loud” and “BOMM” propelled him as one to watch this Summer as he prepares to release his debut Album, “Dopamine”.
2. Royal Blu
They don’t call him “El Fuego” for nothing, his music keeps you on your toes, and his lyrics hit like the hot oil from frying Plantains. This Artist has been quietly making his way onto the scene and has made appearances from “New Wave” to “Live From Kingston: Class 2016”, to “Imprint” to Protoje’s “For The Culture” event. His collaborations with the likes of Lila Ike, Runkus, and Leno Banton have received numerous hits on Soundcloud, and he hits the road (or Air) with Runkus as a part of the “Class Is In” European Tour and a stop at the German Summerjam this Summer!
This Songstress came as a surprise this year with the release of her debut single, “So Shy”. Known as “The First Lady Of REM”, she followed up with a freestyle (Believe In You), and a follow up single titled “The Cycle”. She has also made appearances on “Smile Jamaica”, “New Wave”, “Speak”, and “7 am In Kingston”. Yanah is currently working follow up singles, and makes an appearance near you this Summer!
Beer and Reggae seem to go hand in hand, do they? Recently, the Mexican Beer Brand Corona unleashed another Summer campaign which includes limited edition Beer cans. In the new Commercials, which highlights Sun, Sea, Fun, and Beer, Reggae Artist Jimmy Cliff’s 1972 classic, “You Can Get It If You Really Want“, and Bunny Wailer’s “Cool Runnings” are provided as the theme songs. “You Can Get It If You Really Want” was released by Island Records and featured on the soundtrack to the cult classic “The Harder They Come“. It was originally sung by the late Desmond Dekker in 1970 but Cliff recorded his own version for the Film. The single is no stranger to being used commercially as it was featured in “Speed 2: Cruise Control“, and was used during election times in Nicaragua and Britain. Bunny Wailer’s single was released in 1981 through the Solomonic Label and was featured on his 8th Studio Album, “Rock ‘n’ Groove“. An original member of “The Wailers” along with the late Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, “Jah B” (affectionately called) is also a 3 time Grammy winner and is considered one of the “Gatekeepers” of Reggae music.
Corona used the late Hopeton Lewis’ single “Take It Easy” in their previous campaign. Check out the new ads below.
Delivering something freshly squeezed for your ears today is We Chief! Titled “Lemonade“, it features Jahdan Blakkamoore and Captain Planet. It’s the good Raggatronic music that you’ll definitely need for those hot moments. Dope artwork from Killer Acid as well. This selection calls for the beach chair, flip flops, and a nice fat spliff so call the rest of the day off. Straight off the tree, no additives and preservatives. Check out the track below and share your thoughts in the comments section.
It’s that time again for another feel good Vybz Kartel song! Titled “My Life Belongs” and produced by TJ Records, Kartel aims to take on the summer party season despite being locked up. Known for having hit songs during the summer, will this fare well the other contenders? They can lock him up physically, but his songs remain free all year round. Big up Damn Frais on the cover art too! Check out the track below and share your thoughts in the comments section.
Austria based singer, Miss Str8 is focused on raising the heat with her new release, “Summertime.” She wrote the song with the intention of reminding us to enjoy the bright sunshiny days and encourage us to make the most of the hot weather months.
“Being a Jamaican living in Austria where there are no beaches like Jamaica, it just makes you think of what’s missing. The vibes, the people and no one looks at you like, you’re crazy when you’re singing and dancing on the streets. The vibes in the Clubs tun up! Every summer there is a different style, so the ladies think about what to wear for the season,” Miss Str8 reflects.
She recalls some of her most memorable summer experiences, “I went on a Caribbean cruise with my son, it was extremely nice, he loved it. I also had an awesome time at the Legoland Deutschland resort in Germany, that was crazy fun”
Summertime was produced by, Ras Askia of Hardcore Production and is now available on iTunes. Miss Str8 said, “An official music video is currently in the making and will be released early July. It will feature dancers: Barbie Slimaz from Aruba, Tamica flex doll from Germany, My BFF Stella and Tatjana my son Jafari. The Summertime artwork cover is spectacular and was done by Dobra Fiezt-Bridges.”
Miss Str8 is a popular dancehall artiste in Austria. She is a true ambassador for dancehall in that region being a former dancehall queen titleholder. She performed in Jamaica for the first time at the last staging of the annual Boxing Day event, Sting.
