After waking up Jamaica with his crimson tinged single earlier this year, the official visual for Protoje’s “BLXXD MONEY” is finally here! Directed by Che Kothari with Production by Claire Osman, viewers get a glimpse of the many forms of corruption, a broader look than the lyrics which spoke about corruption in high places, and the various turns made throughout its running time. The video targets every class, and those who practice the dirty ways will eventually see a fall. A statement making song that turned into a powerful video, more like “What A BLXXDCLXXT Film“! Watch the visual below.
Time is moving fast, we were just enjoying the work of art that is “Royalty Free: Side B“. A project made by Recording Artist Protoje, this was released on his Birthday on June 14, 2016 via his Soundcloud page. Featuring 5 tracks and production from Tracker John MD, Winta James, The Drum Keys, 8 Track, and Protoje himself, the project was a hit among fans and newcomers, and had us all wanting the follow up. While we wait on “Royalty Free: Side A”, we look back at the year old project’s samples below. Happy Birthday Protoje and Side B!
1. Can’t Feel No Way – Protoje ft. Runkus
Sample: Don’t Feel No Way – Dennis Brown (1979)
2. Glad You’re Home – Protoje
Sample: Ring My Bell – Blood Sisters (1979)
Protoje really had our attention in 2016.
With the release of his “Royalty Free EP”, appearances at Coachella, his launch of the “New Wave” concert series, and other various happenings, people are still asking if he’s dropping a follow up to the outstanding “Ancient Future” album anytime soon. While no word on that yet, Protoje has been feeling a lil on the crimson side late last year and it now manifests itself as his 2017 debut single, “Blood Money“.
Dropping another selection off his “Ancient Future” album today is Reggae artist, Protoje. Titled “Criminal” and produced by Winta James, Diggy drops some conscious lyrics with a little history lesson. A single that makes you go back to the history books to learn about Peter Tosh, Free I, Leonard Howell, Dutty Boukman, and more. Amazing comic book styled cover art by 1ndividual out of Trinidad. Now here is something appealing to the eyes! Top Jamaican Illustrator Taj Francis recently collaborated with Reggae acts Protoje and Chronixx, and Producer Winta James to craft an Audio-Visual EP titled “TENFOLD:Opus“. The EP is a collection of Audio-Visual pieces that interprets the works of the Musician, Producer and Artist. Titled “Who Knows Dub“, this piece was inspired by the duality of inner peace and anxiety. If you’re not familiar with Taj Francis, he is the person behind the artwork for Protoje’s albums, Green Lion Crew’s “Rough Road”, and many more. It’s always refreshing to see art like this on display and this is something that you watch over and over. Check out the video below and share your thoughts in the comments section.
Coming through with a highly anticipated effort is the duo of Protoje and Chronixx. Titled “Who Knows” and produced by Winta James, we hear them speaking about poverty, spreading love to everyone whether good or bad, acknowledging Jah’s works and being conscious over a really good production. Great song here, Protoje and Chronixx really make a good combination here. Off Protoje’s forthcoming album, check out the song below and share your thoughts in the comments section.
