OLDIES SUNDAY: @IAmPapaSan – I Will Survive (1989)

Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from Papa San who was once hailed as one of the best deejays in Jamaica. This 1989 song “I Will Survive” which borrowed the chorus from Gloria Gaynor’s classic of the same name, chronicles Papa San’s life from age 1 to age 5. He deejays about being groomed by his mom, watching his father work to provide for the family, being punished, and experiencing new things.

I Will Survive” became a hit in Jamaica and helped Papa San to release more hits over the years. He enjoyed much success until converting to Christianity in 1999 and started making Gospel Music. He is also an ordained Pastor in Florida and his musical style is a combination of Dancehall Music with Gospel Music. Even though he has moved to being a Gospel artist, many still remember him for his dancehall hits. Thank You Papa San.
