OLDIES SUNDAY: @RealJuniorReid – One Blood (1989)

Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from Reggae legend Junior Reid with one of his biggest hits. Titled “One Blood” and produced by J.R. Productions in 1989, this was a song that encouraged unity amongst everyone no matter where they live, who they are, their conditions, and their race for they all shared “One Blood“. He also encouraged others to stop the warfare for it caused too much bloodshed.

One Blood” was a big hit for Junior Reid in Jamaica and rejuvenated his solo career after being a member of the reggae group Black Uhuru for a number of years. “One Blood” was also a single on his album of the same name that was released in 1990 and re-released 1992.

After the success of “One BloodJunior Reid went on to release many more singles and albums, and has also made his name known as a producer. As the proprietor of J.R. Productions, he went on to produce for the late Dennis Brown, NinjaMan, and Canadian Rapper Snow where he produced a majority of his 2nd album “Murder Love” which was released in 1995.

One Blood” has been very popular hit for Reid over the years as it recieved the hip hop sample treatment from the Wu-Tang Clan, Girl Talk, and The Game. Junior Reid also collaborated with many artists including M.I.M.S., Jim Jones, Fat Joe, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, and Alicia Keys for her “No One” remix. Junior Reid also introduced the world to his talented children who include Wada Blood, Andrew Blood, Cutty and Juju Blood.
