Malabre Takes His Talents From The Studio, To The Kitchen In Canada

When you’re a part of the Music business, one would say it’s an opportunity for something great, but when you gain success from it, it’s a blessing. Everyday there is a new Artist somewhere trying to hone their skills, or trying to get signed or given a “buss“. For St. Elizabeth-born/Canada-based Recording Artist Malabre, he got the opportunity to be in the music industry, and benefited as a Recording Artist, and as a Label owner/Producer for his South Syndicate Muzik. Having worked with a number of upcoming and established acts over the years, he branched off into the world of TikTok where he would share his views on happenings in the Entertainment industry along with sharing his music, and quickly he became one of the voices of reason on the Jamaican side of the platform. Recently, he further extended his talents to the Kitchen with the launch of the Caribbean Food establishment, “Simply Jamaican“.

Opened on September 12 in the Etobicoke area in Ontario, Canada, Malabre established “Simply Jamaican” as the place where the food does the talking as opposed to him speaking through his music and Social Media platforms. The family-run Restaurant was inspired by his upbringing in Jamaica, as his family was devoted to creating well-loved meals for the household, and with family members even setting up businesses throughout the Island over the years to varied success. Malabre’s experiences in Canada’s local and imported cuisine further spurned his interest in launching his own Restaurant, and being more hands on in ensuring that the food he grew up on, was made available for the locals in Etobicoke, and surrounding areas with high quality and top tier authenticity. Since opening, “Simply Jamaican” has been gaining a tremendous amount of support, with fellow Social Media Personalities showing up for dining, and supporters of Malabre keeping him and his work unit busy through orders via the DoorDash and Uber Eats platforms. While the Studio may be calling him, it will have to be on a temporary hold as he takes care of communities with home-style meals, and Caribbean vibes. If you’re nearby, support “Simply Jamaican” today at 20 Lockport Ave. Etobicoke M8Z 2R7, or call +1 437-928-6643. You can also follow “Simply Jamaican” on Instagram and TikTok at @SimplyJamaicanToronto.

Jelissa Williamson Celebrates Jamaican Heritage With Kid-Friendly Craft

To all my viewers and readers living overseas, how much do you miss being at home? We understand many migrated for financial reasons, and some desire to return living better than they lived growing up in the Caribbean. Some keep the feeling alive by visiting when they can, some attend Caribbean-themed events, some secure the family connection, while others find creative ways to make “farrin” feel like home. London-based Creative and Mother of two Jelissa Williamson a.k.a. Jelissa Marie may not have been born in Jamaica, but she makes connections to keep herself and her family close to her heritage. Recently, she used her love of being creative to celebrate her heritage that everyone can enjoy.

With “Felt Like Yard“, Jelissa Marie creates fun items that tap into her love for Jamaica. In a series of videos she shared on Social Media, she displayed Jamaican cuisine and fruits that had many doing double takes to see if the food was real. From Ackee & Saltfish, to Oxtail with Plantain and Rice and Peas, to Patty, to Guineps, to Porridge with Crackers, to Jerk Chicken, Jelissa’s hands were given a special touch to make these well-loved items from home come to life. With children in mind including her two daughters, Jelissa’s creations encourage stronger family bonds, and with the use of the Montessori Education system, boost children’s zeal for learning and creativity, and develop a love and respect for heritage. The Montessori system is an educational system designed to tap into children’s natural interests and activities rather than a formal way of learning. This includes hands-on learning, playing, developing real-world skills, emphasizing a child’s independence and eagerness to learn.

Jelissa is currently dealing with a demand for her Island creations to be made for purchase, but she is finalizing her catalogue of items, and has a waiting list available for those interested. She’s also open for collaborations. You can find Jelissa on Instagram and TikTok.

Atlanta’s Jamaican Museum To Launch “Buy A Brick” Campaign For Cultural Legacy Building

Jamaica is global, and culture is for the people. Despite the Immigration numbers and how different life is overseas, there are those who try to maintain a solid connection with home through a manner of ways. With that said, there have been many individuals and organizations that try to educate, and preserve Jamaica for those who miss home, or have joined into the Jamaican circle through friendships or partnerships. In Atlanta, Georgia, the Jamaican Museum And Cultural Center has been active in sharing the culture, and all things Jamaica. With their latest Initiative “Buy A Brick“, they look to make something more permanent, and build a legacy.

On August 16, the Jamaican Museum And Cultural Center will officially launch their “Buy A Brick” campaign in Atlanta, Georgia. The Initiative will raise funds to assist in building a permanent landmark and cultural space to house and preserve aspects of Jamaican culture, heritage, and pride, with the aim to grow in membership, and legacy-building. With an event held at the APAP Media Group Office in the Stone Mountain area, and online on APAP’s official live stream, participants are invited to assist in sponsoring via purchasing a personalized, engraved brick that will be a part of the physical structure. Starting at 3PM, the event will host a series of live performances, and cultural presentations that will give the audience a taste of what the Museum has in store for the physical landmark.

We invite everyone, whether you were born in Jamaica, have Jamaican roots, or simply love the culture to be part of this historic movement,” said Dr. Apollone Reid, President of the Jamaican Museum and Cultural Center of Atlanta. “This is more than a fundraiser, it’s a statement of pride, unity, and purpose.

To be a part of this Initiative, visit jmccatlanta.com, and start your donation through bricksrus.com/donorsite/jmccatl. Come be a part of History.

Teach Your Child Self-Belief With New “The Proud Little Dutty Jancrow” Book

In a time where dreams are broken, anxiety runs rampant, and the belief system is in a downward direction, there needs to be things and people who help to encourage, uplift, and bring the best out of us. This is even more important for the children as there aren’t always avenues for them to express themselves, and be accepted for who they are. Content Creator/Founder of Epic Flows Production Ramon Nichols believes that everyone is special in their own way, and should embrace themselves and the gifts they possess. He uses his new book, “The Proud Little Dutty Jancrow” as a tool for inspiration.

“The Proud Little Dutty Jancrow” is Ramon Nichols’ entry into the world of Children’s books, and with it he spreads the message of self-belief, self-acceptance, and build a child’s self-esteem. The story features Jody, a young John Crow/Turkey Vulture who is on a journey of discovering her personality, building her confidence, and accepting who she is in the world despite what people may say. The John Crow/Jancrow is often met with displeasure by some given its nature and is often used a term to negatively describe people in Jamaica, but the bird itself is just a bird like others, and accepts itself for what it is. The new book enforces similar messages through a great story for the youth who are facing stumps in their journey. The book also features a number of activities that encourage a child’s development to be done with family and friends, and even includes a soundtrack filled with positive music.

For the parents who are looking for solid literature and positive content for their growing children, grab a copy of Ramon Nichols’ “The Proud Little Dutty Jancrow” on Amazon, and on Lulu Books. For more information, visit littleduttyjancrow.com.

Dancehall Week Street Parade on 13thStreetPromotions.com #Jamaica #Dancehall #Music #13thStreetPromotions #DancehallWeek #StreetParade #JCF #JamaicaConstabularyForce #Caribbean

“Dancehall Week” Parade Met With Opposition From Police

via StreetCred Jamaica

The committee for Dancehall Week 2025 is extremely disappointed with how the Jamaica Constabulary Force treated the authorization and subsequent parade permit requested for the second annual Dancehall Street Parade in Kingston, Jamaica this past Sunday, March 2.

After months of planning and communication being circulated worldwide regarding the Dancehall Week street parade route, start time of 5:00 pm and an end time of 8:00 pm; last week’s consultation with a team of officers led by SSP Michael Bailey, from the Strategic Planning Division, cited laws in Jamaica prohibiting marches outside of 6am to 6pm. The police then insisted that the Dancehall Street Parade must take place within the stipulated hours or face prosecution.

WE brought a few things to their attention when they told us we had to change the time for our street parade after our entire advertising campaign had not only started but was in its final phase. One, we had consulted with the police to suggest the actual start time when we requested a night parade late last year. Secondly, we told them that a carnival event had held their road march after the 6am-6pm time period on numerous occasions, which SSP Bailey vehemently denied,Dave Goldson, CEO of Dancehall Week Limited shared.

According to Section 3(2) of the Public Order Act, no public procession or march shall take place on any public road or in any public place outside the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., except with the permission of the Commissioner of Police.

Conceding that the law does exist, the organizers of the Dancehall Week Street Parade are claiming classism as the reason their parade was bound by the existing law whilst Carnival events are exempt from the same law, this belief is even more fueled with the announcement of a Carnival Road March being promoted for April 25, 2025 starting at 3:00 am and confirming that the same event had a night march on April 6 of last year.

The Dancehall Street Parade, with trucks hosted by HITZ FM, SUN CITY RADIO, DOUBLE 7 ENERGY DRINK, CLEARSOUND, STR8 VYBZ and IRIE FM, was eventually staged, in a rushed manner, starting from Ranny Williams Entertainment Center, one hour before the advertised start of 5:00 pm and departing the Half Way Tree point at 6:00 pm, which was 90 minutes earlier than planned. This sudden change in time resulted in several persons arriving at 5:00 pm to miss the parade.

We are trying to make Dancehall run professionally and therefore had these conversations long before any public advertising had started. Ultimately this feels like sabotage of our own culture by the police who should be there to help support our own. We need answers from the highest level as our event for the last two years have been completely incident and violence free,” Dave added.
