NEW MUSIC: @SamanthaJLive x @DejLoaf – League Of My Own

SamanthaJ

Stepping out with a new single are the likes of “Miss Tight Up Skirt” a.k.a. Samantha J, and “Miss Try Me” a.k.a. Dej Loaf. Titled “League Of My Own“, we hear the ladies speak on being their own persons, how they roll, being unstoppable, and of course being in their own league. Interesting collaboration between the two but they’ve managed to make it work. I liked that little sample of the “Punanny Riddim” later in the song. Get the single today on iTunes. Is there a Samantha J album on the way? Check out the track below and share your thoughts in the comments section.

NEW VIDEO: @OnstageTV Interviews Mad Cobra

MC

The term “Dancehall in jail” is slowly becoming an actual thing with entertainers like Vybz Kartel and Busy Signal seeing jail time, many fear that Dancehall music will not see better days. As an entertainer who has seen great success for many years, Deejay Mad Cobra had a chat with Winford Williams on a few things. Here he spoke about returning to the U.S., being a victim of gun violence in 2010 and losing his visa, thoughts on Vybz Kartel’s imprisonment, walking away from violence, getting the big break with “Flex” and being signed to Columbia Records in the 90s, being absent from the spotlight for a while, studying Shabba Ranks performances, Sting and much more. Great interview here and a history lesson too, Cobra has always been a respected artist and veteran of his craft and he’s still churning out hits. Check out the videos below and share your thoughts in the comments section.

OLDIES SUNDAY: King Yellow Man – Zungguzeng (1982)

Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from one of Dancehall’s foundation artists and the most popular albino artist, King Yellow Man. Titled “Zungguzungguguzungguzeng” (Yes LONG name), it was produced by “Junjo” Lawes on the “DiseasesRiddim a.k.a. “Mad Mad Riddim”. Yellow Man showcases his rhyming abilities all while stating he shouldn’t be taken for a child. The rhyming style is reminiscent of the toasting rappers used to do at parties in the 1980s.
