.@AyotemiMusic & @SamWyse_ Have A “Back N’ Forth” In New Video!

How are you all doing today? Feeling good? How about some new music? Today we deliver to you some “Irie” vibes all the way from New Orleans courtesy of Reggae/Hip Hop Artists Ayotemi and Sam Wyse of the IRIE Collective! On “Back N’ Forth“, the duo take turns dropping a favourable amount of bars over some 90’s inspired production (done by Wyse) that you can’t help but rock to, and want to add a few bars to. The video was shot by Jake Meyer of Carthage Films, and gets right to the point. “I&I Reflects Interconnected Eternity“. Check out the video below, and follow us on Instagram at @13thStreetPromo.

We Feature The New Kids Of Reggae/Dancehall In Our New Playlist!

In previous articles, we’ve highlighted Child Stars and dedications to the youth, but in closing of May being Child’s Month, we’d like to remix a series. A couple years ago, we highlighted the offspring of some famous names in Reggae/Dancehall in a 5 part series called “Chip Off The Old Block“. Today, we want to offer a playlist featuring some of the offspring that made their names known within the past few years. We urge you to not only play the songs, but support them as they continue their journey of carrying on the family name/reputation, or carve their own paths. Fi di yute dem! Check out the articles and playlist below, and follow us on Instagram at @13thStreetPromo.

We Take A “Quick Throwback” Look Into @IAmEvaFlow’s “Diggy InFlow”

Long before he gave you an “Anthem“, and before he met a “Familiar Stranger“, Recording Artist EvaFlow was giving you bars. Today in a new episode in our “Quick Throwback” series, we go back to the early 2000’s to hear EvaFlow’s “Diggy InFlow“. Borrowing Jay Z’s “H.O.V.A.” instrumental and Protoje giving an intro, EvaFlow gets into his bag to deliver an “overdose” of rhymes straight to your ears. The track could be found on one of his earlier mixtapes titled, “Unsigned Unhyped OnPoint” which finds the artist tackling various Hip Hop beats. Straight outta Santa Cruz with the “Over…diggydose“!

Stay tuned for another quick throwback!

Billy Boyo’s “One Spliff A Day” Sampled On @IngleWoodSiR’s “D’Evils”

While we’re a lil late on this one (things fly below our radar at times), we’re always on time with the knowledge. Top Dawg Entertainment Recording Artist SiR released his debut album “November” earlier this year. Since its release, the Artist has been on the radar of many, and has been sharing the stage with the likes of Miguel, and his fellow TDE brethren on tour. Recently, he released the visual for his D.K. The Punisher produced single “D’Evils“, and a familiar sound started it off. While the video was shot in Jamaica by Karena Evans, the sample on the track comes from the late Dancehall Artist, Billy Boyo. A former child star, his popular track “One Spliff A Day” can be heard in the beginning, and throughout the song. The track was released in 1981 and produced by Henry “Junjo” Lawes. The track was also sampled on Jamaican Rapper Baker Steez’s “Ba Bye”, and Wiz Khalifa’s 2011 track of the same name.

Billy Boyo, who started his career in the early 80’s, has been considered one of Dancehall’s earliest child stars. While he released two albums, he was known more for his live performances than recordings. His “One Spliff A Day” track was recorded when he was only 10 years old and featured some rather mature lyrics from him. It still remains his most known track. The Artist passed away in the year 2000 due to a Brain Tumor. Check out other Jamaican Artists who started out as child stars here.

We Take A “Quick Throwback” Look Into @KabakaPyramid’s “Empty Souls”!

Before Kabaka Pyramid the Reggae Artist, before “Kontraband” hits the Internet, before “King Kabaka” ran the place, and before “Well Done” rocked the nation, there was the Rapper Keron Salmon a.k.a. “Ronny Pyramid” and he’s featured in our latest “Quick Throwback“! Going back to the year 2008, we check his track “Empty Souls“! Produced by Kevin Coates, Kabaka handles a sample based Production as he delivers some conscious Rap about saving those empty souls out there with the “doctrine from the Lost Papyrus“. The song also paid tribute to the late Rap Brown, a Rapper on the rise who was a part of Kabaka’s Bebble Rock crew, and known in the Jamaican Hip Hop scene.

Since the release of “Empty Souls”, Kabaka merged his Hip Hop influences with his Reggae side and became one of the prominent figures in the “Reggae Revival” movement along with Protoje, Jah 9, Jesse Royal, and many more. He has since released a few projects, and is looking to release his debut Album, “Kontraband” in May 2018. Stay tuned for another quick throwback!
