OLDIES SUNDAY: Major Worries – Product Of Jamaica (1987)

In all honesty, there’s nothing better than being a Jamaican. No matter the struggles, no matter the stress, being Jamaican is just different. With Jamaica’s 63rd Independence celebrations on the way, we thought we’d start the party early on “Oldies Sunday“. Today we go back in time to check out Major Worries’Product Of Jamaica“.

Produced by Hyman Wright and Percy Chin for the Jah All Mighty Label and released in 1987, Major Worries’ “Product Of Jamaica” is for the true patriot. The Deejay uses his signature style to highlight some of the many names and products that represent Jamaica to the fullest. From Merlene Ottey, to Salada Foods, to Donald Quarrie, to Peter Metro, to Wisynco, to Josey Wales, Worries lectures the listeners on everything made in the 876, and  invites International Investors to come be a part of it. “Product Of Jamaica” gained some popularity for the Deejay, and over the years scored numerous spins during Independence Day celebrations. Major Worries was one of Dancehall’s promising stars at the time, and his works have influenced the likes of Sean Paul, and Macka Diamond, who once named herself “Lady Worries“. “Product Of Jamaica” would be one of Worries’ last releases before his tragic passing in August 1987. No matter where you are, no matter what you do, remember that you’re Jamaican, and like Major Worries’ song, you are a product of Jamaica. Happy 63rd, Jamaica.

Thank You Major Worries For This Classic!

OLDIES SUNDAY: Richie Stephens – Come To Jamaica (2007)

It’s Independence Day in Jamaica, and we celebrate Jamaica 61 on “Oldies Sunday“! This year we get two days of Independence celebrations, and we urge our readers to be safe on the road. Today’s selection comes from Richie Stephens with the track, “Come To Jamaica“.

Co-Produced with Danny Browne and released on the Pot Of Gold label in 2007, “Come To Jamaica” is one of the unofficial anthems of Jamaica by Richie Stephens. Throughout the track, Stephens is inviting outsiders to come and experience the Island, and all that it has to offer. With a great vocal delivery and a backup that help to steer this performance in the right place, “Come To Jamaica” instantly became a hit for Stephens. He had a track record of highlighting Jamaica in the best way through song, and this track was just another addition to the lineup. “Come To Jamaica” was featured on the 2008 album of the same name. The song was also remixed for CVM TV to promote their channel (“Looking in, looking out, looking even better…“).

Since the release of “Come To Jamaica”, Richie Stephens continued to have a music career that was already legendary. “Come To Jamaica” remains a favourite for many.

Thank You Richie Stephens For This Hit!
