Recording Artist Xhae continues to build on her catalogue. The Singer has been making appearances at a number of events, and even represented Jamaica this past August in the Cayman Islands. She is determined not to be stuck in one lane, and she continues to show promise. Earlier, she released the new single, “Right Now“.

Produced by Jermaine Forde and released through Dubshot Records, Xhae has her eyes on the right Man, and she wants to make great things happen with him “Right Now”. With a tempo that’s just right and backed by Reggae production, Xhae looks to have this new single rotating on all the Sound Systems. The easygoing vibe here calls for a cozy party for two, and a late night excursion, or a time to paint the town red. Featuring 16 tracks, Ky-Mani Marley brings good music with the new “Love And Energy” album. Tapping into Reggae, Dancehall, and R&B throughout, Marley has music to recharge the listener, and take them away from all the stress in their world. Ky-Mani gets into some production on the album along with Anthony Smith, Azriel Reckley, Dean Thomas and more, while Bugle, Andrew Tosh, Anthony B, Lutan Fyah, Gyptian, Iba Mahr, Agent Sasco, and Sizzla join in on a few tracks. They say imitation is a sincere form of flattery. In music, it can cause division sometimes. In Dancehall over the years we’ve had Artist who share some similarities in voice like Bounty Killa and the late Merciless, Tiger and Wayne Lonesome and Zebra, and even in Reggae we have most of Bob Marley’s offspring sounding like him. Upcoming Recording Artist/Content Creator Bvd Speedz has been realizing that him voice is similar to a couple of his favourite Artists, and has been releasing parodies of their popular singles. Recently, Dancehall Artist Skippa would be a part of the content.

Recently, Dancehall Artist Skippa released the single, “Glocks and Chips, a diss aimed at fellow Artist Malie Donn. The track has gained immense popularity, and it promoted Bvd Speedz, who sounds similar to the Artist, to make a parody of the track called, “Goats and Pigs“. Previewed on his TikTok platform, the song’s subject matter focuses on the life of an Animal Thief, who would go around and steal a Farmer’s livestock. Speedz uses not only the vocal, but Skippa’s flow throughout, and we believe he did the track some justice, and would find favour with listeners. It’s in all good fun, and it could open the door for good opportunities for the Creative. Nighttime on the farm.

The Trap/Chop Dancehall scene is stacked today, but you can’t forget those who helped to start the wave. North Coast-based Dancehall Artist C9 is one of the early names in the Trap Dancehall movement, and has been steadily influencing many Artists, while keeping the Studio and streets busy. Many tune in when he drops the latest sound, and he maintains a presence along with a fanbase. In this day, many seek to take the top spot, but like his new EP, C9 says “9 Is Now“.

Featuring 7 tracks, C9 returns to scene with a mission to be greater with the “9 Is Now” EP. The Deejay shares glimpses into the fast life, the ups and downs in the life he lives, and still has time to keep his listeners (including the ladies) locked in. The EP was released through G9 Records who handles all the production throughout, and includes a guest feature from Merkz. The clock has 24 hours for everyone, but when it strikes “9“, it’s C9’s time to dominate.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Screwdriver – No Mama (1987)

In just a few days (or hours for some), the Caribbean youth will steadily be back in the classroom for another year of School. As Parents you want the best for your child, ensuring that you did the necessary things to aid them, while they focus on their studies and earn the right education. As with life, temptation can come their way, and some get caught up in a manner of things. For some, it’s a temporary situation, while others experience something that stays with them for life. On “Oldies Sunday“, we focus on Teenage Pregnancy, and today selection comes from Deejay Screwdriver with the track, “No Mama“.

Produced by The Now Team and released through the Volcano Label in 1987, Screwdriver shares a scenario between a Mother and her Teenage Daughter Sharon who may or may not be pregnant in, “No Mama” (also called “Sharon A Pregnant You Pregnant”). The Mother goes through a number of questions with her Daughter, as she suspects and has caught on to a few things. The song’s subject matter is one that was relevant then, and is still relevant now as some of our youth have fallen by the wayside, and found themselves becoming victims to peer pressure, or placed themselves in adult situations before their time. Teenage Pregnancy has declined in some parts of the world over the years, but it is still a serious matter. “No Mama” quickly became a hit for Screwdriver, and was featured on the 1987 album, “No Mama”. The song’s popularity would spawn versions from other Deejays as well.

Since the release of “No Mama”, Screwdriver went on to release more music over the years, and toured various parts of the world. Today, he is focused on Art, but his music is still celebrated and remembered by many. “No Mama” comes up at times when the topic of Teenage Pregnancy is presented.
