Reggae is love, and for decades it has been put on display by many Artists. Rastafari is love, and Recording Artist Turbulence’s catalogue has a number of selections for the lovers. Before the V-Day celebrations, he celebrates “Love Forever“.

Produced by Countree Hype on the “Flimstone Riddim“, Turbulence shares the importance of love between two people in, “Love Forever”. Along with the good times come the bad ones, and that special can never be broken a part. There will be those who spew hate, spread propaganda, and do a manner of things to break up happy homes, but true love will never die. The single is accompanied by a music video directed by Clipz By Will, and while Turbulence delivers his song, we see a couple bond in a number of ways throughout. Reggae is a music of love, and before the Valentine’s Day weekend, we thought we’d not only celebrate love, but celebrate the versatility of Reggae being it is Reggae Month on “Oldies Sunday“. For today’s selection, we go back in time to check out Perfect Giddimani’s “Hand Cart Bwoy“.

Produced by Rebel Chris for Rebel Musik in 2004, it’s all about two different world finding that love, and becoming a union in Perfect Giddimani’s “Hand Cart Bwoy”. Perfect shares his upbringing to one that’s not rich in wealth, but in love, and his chance meeting with a Woman who may have come from a more privileged place. They instantly clicked, and despite their backgrounds, they’ve managed to share love, and build a companionship that comes right out of the Romance novels. It’s the kind of love that’s not based on what you have, it’s your character, something that’s missing in a lot of relationships today. “Hand Cart Bwoy” was an instant hit for Perfect, and found its way to connect with many on the International market. The song would later be featured on his 2006 debut album, “Giddimani“. “Hand Cart Bwoy” was sampled by Cutthroat Mode in 2017 for a song of the same name.

Since the release of “Hand Cart Bwoy”, Perfect Giddimani continued to enjoy a career with a few more hits, and has been a touring Artist for a number of years. “Hand Cart Bwoy” remains one of his biggest songs, and is one to play for the lovers.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Ambelique – Penny Lover (1997)

Welcome to February. We kick off Reggae Month, celebrate the birthday of the late Dennis Brown, recognize Black History Month, and celebrate love. It’s “Oldies Sunday“, and before we start off, we salute the late Sly Dunbar known to many from the Production duo Sly & Robbie who passed away on January 26. Today’s selection is all about love and remembering the greats. We go back in time to check out “Penny Lover” by Ambelique.

Produced by Sly & Robbie and released through the Taxi label in 1997, it’s all about a deep desire for that special someone in Ambelique’s “Penny Lover”. The track is a Reggae cover of US Singer Lionel Richie’s 1984 hit single, and Ambelique does it justice with his unique vocals, pulling in the listener who is focused on love. Sly & Robbie’s top tier production adds well to the powerful track, and it became a hit for listeners. “Penny Lover” was featured on the 1997 album, “Sings The Classics“, and was included in a number of Sly & Robbie projects following including the GRAMMY Award-winning “Friends” album.

Since “Penny Lover”, Ambelique continued to release more music. He is still active, and in 2024 he released the album “Blind Spot“. Though “Penny Lover” is a cover, it’s still loved by many around the world.
