OLDIES SUNDAY: Thriller U – Sweetest Sound (1989)

Today, we celebrate one of Jamaica’s respected Vocalists, Thriller U. Today (August 14) he celebrates his birthday, and for our Oldies Sunday selection, we highlight one of his earliest singles, “Sweetest Sound“.

Produced by “Bobby Digital” Dixon on the “Peanie Peanie Riddim” and released through Digital-B Records in 1989, Thriller U, a then Teen sensation, gives us a song that all the DJs loved. With his smooth vocals, Thriller U borrows from Anita Wards’ 1979 Disco hit, “Ring My Bell” for the chorus of a song that goes into attack mode for any “Soundbwoy” who wants to test a Champion Sound. Whether they ensure that the vibes is right at a party or secure victory at any Sound Clash, Thriller U sings for the sound that runs the place. “Sweetest Sound” was included in the compilation album “Two Good To Be True” featuring Admiral Tibet, that was released in 1989 through Digital-B Records.

Since the release of “Sweetest Sound”, Thriller U went on to enjoy a successful solo career, and became a member of the super group L.U.S.T. with Singing Melody, Lukie D, and Tony Curtis. Thriller U is still active with a plethora of singles out, and he still gives his all with every performance. Big up Thriller on his birthday!

Thank You Thriller U For This Classic!
