Months ago, Nigerian Producer Sarz was working on his then-upcoming Debut Album, “Protect Sarz At All Costs“. While he had contributions from some of the major African stars in his contacts, he believed in expanding his horizons. The album was released recently, and it tapped into some Caribbean energy. One of the contributors was Dancehall Artist Skillibeng, and you can find him on, “Getting Paid“.

Featuring fellow Naija stars Asake and Wizkid, Sarz brings his sound, and calls up Skillibeng for, “Getting Paid”. The song speaks on the Artists coming from the struggles to making it in life, and the benefits that come with their success. The track off of the “Protect Sarz At All Costs” album brings the energy, and it is displayed further in an accompanying Visualizer. Shot in Lagos, Sarz gathers with the people, further showing strength in numbers. Sarz has been a part of the careers of many Artists for years, and with his debut, he’s ready for the takeover. His “Protect Sarz At All Costs” album also features an appearance by Dancehall/Hip Hop Artist Byron Messia.

The topic of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in music is a matter that is struggling to find a common ground. With news of AI Artists getting signed to Record deals, and AI music taking over social and Entertainment platforms, there are discussions that argue against AI as it replaces real people with real skills, while others are embracing it as a way opening the door to more opportunities. Dancehall Producer Notnice has been the subject of discussion recently as he signed AI Artist S’riah (Soraya) to his label. While the arguments ensue, he’s using S’riah for something that is extremely important. He recently shared the music video for the new single, “Save Me“.

 “Save Me” is Notnice’s official debut of S’riah, his new AI Artist. Following the news of the passing of Jamaican Model Tyra Spaulding, the new song was made in support, and to spread awareness for those who struggle with their Mental Health. Many people struggle with various forms of Depression, and some choose to go through the route of Suicide. With more people advocating for more focus on Mental Health in Jamaica, “Save Me” was made to further encourage discussions and moves in the right direction. The song was written by Notnice Records-signee Nordia Mothersille, who continues to showcase her talent, and extended it to her code-filled label mate. The talks of Artificial Intelligence in music will continue, but right now, we encourage listeners and our readers who are struggling with their Mental Health, to seek an outlet where they can speak to someone who can assist them. The “Energy God” Elephant Man has been cooking all year, and he’s not stingy with the portions. Celebrating his 30th year online and onstage, best believe there is more in store. Earlier, he revealed the music video for the new single, “The Gyal Them Anthem“.

Produced by Digital One Music, Elephant Man will have the Women feeling themselves a little more now with “The Gyal Them Anthem”. For the Women who know how to step out, the Bad Gyal dem, the Good Gyal dem, and the Boss Ladies, Ele is speaking to you all, so move up your body to this one. Accompanied by a Music Video directed by Rojhay Anderson and shot in New York, Ele is seen mingling with the ladies, and being a part of a judging panel to pick out the most impressive Women in the venue. Jamaica has a rich music history that sometimes slip our minds. While Reggae and Dancehall are on the frontline, we tend to not mention other genres like Calypso and Mento that made strides long before our Independence. That’s why there’s “Oldies Sunday” to highlight the content. Today’s selection comes from Hubert Porter and The Jamaican Calypsonians with the track, “Rum & Coconut Water“.

Released through Times Record in 1953, when one is missing a certain energy, Hubert Porter & The Jamaican Calypsonians suggest you get some “Rum & Coconut Water” in your system. Inspired by living overseas, the song speaks of a Man who is homesick and is relaying the information to his Woman as he is lacking the drive to do a lot of things. To him, there’s nothing like being home and being fed the right things. Rum and Coconut was a drink of choice to keep one on his toes, and remains a drink for many today, especially those who are coming home from Overseas. “Rum & Coconut Water” was a popular track, and was a part of the setlist when Hubert Porter & The Jamaican Calypsonians perform at various Hotels and events. The Instrumentation throughout had the people dancing, and kept the vibe going all night. Times Record was one of the platforms that helped the Artists with their releases, and was a subsidiary of the Times Store, one of Jamaica’s then largest Department stores. “Rum & Coconut Water” would later be covered by Mento Band, The Jolly Boys, and Cayman Islands-based performer, The Barefoot Man.

Since the release of “Rum & Coconut Water”, Hubert Porter and The Jamaican Calypsonians would go on to release more music together. The Jamaican Calypsonians would collaborate with The Mighty Panther, Lord Flea, Lord Tickler, and others over the years. “Rum & Coconut Water” would be remembered, and covered by many over the years.
