We Salute The Late Max Romeo With Our Latest Playlist

On April 11, the world lost another legend. The news of Reggae Icon Max Romeo’s passing was definitely a shock to many, and tributes were quickly made public. Since the 1960s, Romeo defined an era where he delivered songs that stood out from the pack, with lyrics that have inspired generations of Artists, and caused bans and censorships. He became a dominant force, and he never backed down from whatever or whoever stood in the way. He is a legend, will be missed by many, and his legacy will be carried on by his children, and those who have joined his movement. We pay tribute to him with our latest Playlist, “Sampling Max Romeo“.

Featuring a few tracks, we showcase not only some of Max Romeo’s works, but Artists in Hip Hop, Pop, EDM, and Reggae who have sampled his music on the “Sampling Max Romeo” Playlist. Many of us know Jay Z’sLucifer” that sampled “Chase The Devil“, but we’re using this time to highlight even more. Hopefully there will be more who will sample his work in the future, just make sure the business is handled well with his family. Salute to the late Max Romeo. Max Romeo 4Eva!

.@LongLiveLordKez Brings Old School Vibes With “Aweh”

South African Recording Artist LordKez has been on the scene for quite some time, releasing tracks that have been doing damage throughout Africa, and other parts of the world. She’s not tied to one genre, and whatever sound attracts her, she’s all in. Recently, she shared her newest project, “You, Me & The 90s“, and it has been gaining momentum since then. She keeps the run alive with the video for one of the project’s tracks, “Aweh“.

Directed by Fred-From-Yesterday, LordKez gives us some old school R&B/Pop vibes with, “Aweh” (A South African slang used to express excitement). The Jordan Klem-produced track finds us tuned into the start of a new romance as Kez is approached by a young Man, and from introductions to them getting closer, we’re enjoying this story. The video has cars, fashion, dance, and you’re going to keep the video on repeat. Whether your style is the 90s or 2000s, you’ll be pleased after experiencing “Aweh”. We could hear a remix of this featuring a Jamaican Artist too, maybe Jada Kingdom, or even D’Yani. “You, Me & the 90s” is out now through Stay Low.

Prodii Deals With Loss On, “Heart Cry”

It’s never easy when it comes to losing people. It’s even harder when it’s a loved one. Produced by Juvi9ine/Pela, Prodii deals with the loss of his Mother in, “Heart Cry”. The Deejay goes through the different emotions throughout, and many will relate as he recalls the times when his Mother fell ill, his episodes where he tried to cope with the loss, to admitting to not wanting to go on without her, and replacing his life with hers. The accompanying Music Video shot by UnveiledOfficial-i2s and C4 Visuals shares Prodii in a grieving state, and clips of the Funeral procession for his Mother. Loss is never easy, and we send our condolences to the Deejay at this time. Take it a day at a time, and remember the good times. Sleep well, Michelle Betancourt.

.@DiRealShaggy Pays Tribute To “Junjo” Lawes, Talks New Projects & More With @JamaicansDotCom

International Dancehall/Reggae Ambassador Shaggy is a student of the music. Despite having a well-decorated music career, he always salutes those who have paved the way for him and others to go. It’s not hard to know when you listen to his catalogue as he finds ways to mold a classic tune into something for the new generation to enjoy. Recently, he had a chat with Kadia Francis of Jamaicans.com, and he had a lot to share.

In his new Interview with Jamaicans.com, Shaggy spoke on the significance of the late Producer Henry “Junjo” Lawes, his many contributions to the culture, being a foundation for Dancehall, and how Shaggy pays tribute to his work with the release of his new “Badman Riddim” Compilation. The new Riddim was previewed in 2024 with singles from Spice (who he shared a great deal about), Junior Cat, and Shaggy and Olaf Blackwood, and is set to be fully released later this year. Shaggy also spoke on his “Mr. Symphonic” project with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and how important it was to do something like this to expand on his creativity. He also shared his views on the newer crop of Dancehall Artists, name dropping a few who have shown up on his radar, and highlighted how necessary it is to stand out as an Artist. He also emphasized the importance of musical foundations, and there should be more to learn from previous generations, to assist in developing future generations. “Mr. Boombastic” shared plenty in this Interview, and listeners will be intrigued and motivated, especially when they learn how some of his hits were just sitting on hard drives before being released.

Catch Shaggy on May 17 with Lila Ike at The Issa Trust Foundation’s 20th Anniversary “For The Children” Event at Couples Sans Souci, Ocho Rios, St. Ann.
