Hip Hop in Jamaica continues to rise with the emergence of new artists who aim to hang with the best of them. Off his new EP “Been A Minute“, Rapper ChronDon released the visuals to his freestyle over Drake’s “Wu-Tang Forever” single. Directed by Creezay YGF, Chron hangs out with his friends and drops some bars over the instrumental. ChronDon has been doing his thing for a while and is definitely one to look out for. “Strictly Jamaican when you see me spark“. Today’s new video comes from I Octane. Titled “Trendsetta” and directed by Bling Blang Productions, I Octane and friends are celebrating life, avoiding negative people, and creating a following in this one. It’s all about partying, sexy ladies, liquor overflowing, high grades blowing in the air and everyone having a grand time over the Good Good Productions riddim. Great effort here and Bling Blang can add another hit to the list. I Octane has been hitting the airwaves hard and with his album “My Journey” out now, there’s no slowing down. Accurate! Today Kabaka Pyramid released the visual for a single that has been making its rounds. The DJ Frass produced “Never Gonna Be A Slave“, which was directed by Eric Christian King and shot in Kingston, Kabaka speaks on not being a slave to the system, never selling out on his beliefs, how people suffer in the system, discrimination, and promoting consciousness. Very good video here and I like the shots where Kabaka is on top of the building and when he’s interacting with people. “The fire burning immaculate“. Dancehall Music and Hip Hop have influenced many the world over but today Jamaican Hip Hop meets Italian Hip Hop thanks to Vaccadon, Jamil and TMO The Militant One with their new video. Titled “Zoo Bwoy“, we hear the artists talk about the lives they live (in their native tongues) and we see Vaccadon and TMO interact with others in a studio while Jamil holds it down with his crew elsewhere. While many may not be fluent in Italian, we can enjoy the visuals and the three rappers’ deliveries. Italy meets Jamaica. What do you think? “United we stand, divided we fall” is the message singjay Jahmiel is bringing to us today with the video for his recent single. Titled “United” and directed by Ricardo Williams, co-directed by Kahlila Anderson and shot in Pinnacle and Trelawny, Jahmiel delivers a message promoting unity while showing how divided people can be at times. A good effort here as Jahmiel is one of the artists you should be checking for as he delivers some really good music. Check out the video below and share your thoughts in the comments section.
With the news of legal issues affecting many Jamaican artists, many have either spent time in jail or have had their belongings confiscated. One of the artists to be affected with legal issues is singer Christopher Martin. Tonight on Onstage he explained his ordeal, cleared up rumors, declared his innocence, working out with Usain Bolt, and working on upcoming musical projects including his album “Stepping Razor“. While it’s unfortunate that many entertainers are going through troubles, it’s good that Chris has stepped onto public domain to clear up things. It can only get better.
