Today’s Monday for many, but it’s also known as the first day of a stressful week. There aren’t many fans of Monday in the working world, and the day has gotten such a bad reputation, that there were petitions to not make it a work day. Antiguan Soca Diva Claudette Peters shares the same sentiment, but she needs herself some time off so she can get back to being the Diva she is. In her words, she needs a “Mental Day“.

Produced by ChippyG and Brukway Production, Claudette Peters is stressed out, and she shares what she’d really like to do on “Mental Day”. With the Antigua Carnival season gearing up for a hot Summer, Peters wants to dance, get on bad, and enjoy life the way she should. Work causes many to be fed up, so having time off helps to give the person a chance to recharge, and with the way how our Mental Health has been over the past few years, we all need a break. If you can’t get that time off yet, put yourself in a place mentally where you can party with the people, enjoy the sounds of Carnival, and harness that good energy till it happens in real life. Digital music streaming giant Audiomack continues to set trends when it comes to highlighting quality music, and showcasing talented creators from around the world. The Audiomack world is filled with original content that has found favor with old and new users of the platform, and they continue to make their mark as the go-to streaming platform to build fanbases, and release unique content. They look to expand their dominance with the launch of their new Playlist series, “Made In Caribbean”.

“Made In Caribbean” is a quarterly new series that seeks to exhibit the ever-evolving style of the Caribbean Artist, the music genres that emerge from the Caribbean, and the DJs who are responsible for breaking these Artists and sounds. Derived from the success of Audiomack’s specially-curated Playlists, “Made In Caribbean” is the brainchild of Tanya Lawson, Director of Audiomack’s Strategic Marketing for the Caribbean and Gospel Music division, and is focused on putting the best on display. With 25 Islands to choose from, Audiomack will select a top DJ from each Island, who will then curate a Playlist that features homegrown talent. 

“Made In Caribbean” promises to bring an extra boost to the local music industry, encouraging more Artists to go back to their roots when creating and representing the global stage. Top selectors from the Caribbean including Jamaica’s Boom Boom, DJ Spade from Turks & Caicos, Trinidad’s DJ Echo, Rusty G from Bermuda, and TroopahLive From the Virgin Islands, Guyana’s PriinceMuzik, DJ Quest from Antigua, and Haiti’s Michael Brun have been recruited, and are gearing up to launch their respective Playlists featuring their handpicked Artists.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Burning Flames – Swing Engine (1994)

Somewhere out there, there’s some Soca Music blaring through some speakers. For today’s Oldies Sunday selection, we’re taking a trip to Antigua. We highlight Soca Band Burning Flames’ “Swing Engine“.

Produced and arranged by Burning Flames Productions and released in 1994, “Swing Engine” was made for the ladies who knew how to dazzle and hypnotize, and were built for speed with what they got! A song that showcased a new era of modern Soca Music in the Caribbean, Burning Flames’ “Swing Engine” quickly became a hit for the band. The song’s cleverly written lyrics, heavy production, and storytelling elements made it a classic, and is still in heavy rotation today. “Swing Engine” or sometimes called “Swinging Engine” was featured on Burning Flames’ 1994 album, “Klatye“. “Swing Engine” has also been covered by School bands around the Caribbean, most recently by a Cadet Band in Manchester, Jamaica.

Since the release of “Swing Engine”, Burning Flames went on to make more hits, score more album releases, and influenced future generations of Soca Artist before going through lineup changes over the years. No matter what the band did, “Swing Engine” is still one of the band’s biggest singles.

Last year, upcoming Recording Artist/Podcaster/Creative GyalKapone celebrated her birthday with the release of her second single, “Mission“. The track has won over some listeners with the “badness” injected in the lyrics as Kapone is looking for a way to score a few Million by any means necessary. The track is still making its rounds along with her debut single, “Never“, but she now taking her career up a notch with her first remix.

GyalKapone enjoys a remix of “Mission” with Jamaican born/Antigua based Recording Artist Young Luiy. On the track, Luiy is gearing up to grab a few Million as well, and ensures that his moves are smooth ones so that the bags are secured. He compliments GyalKapone’s original track well, and this may be the beginning of a few collaborations between the two. Maybe we get some Bonnie & Clyde styled collabs. GyalKapone is currently working on new music, and is making moves with her “Enz Off Podcast“. Stay tuned for more.

Leno Banton has been steadily dropping new content in these past few months. Armed with a new focus, he is determined to show the world that the talent doesn’t take breaks. With a new project on the way, he steps out with a new single titled, “Furnace“.

Produced by Ackah Dan out of Antigua, Leno Banton shares some of his day to day observations on the track. He witnesses conflict, confusion, corruption, violence, and betrayal that burn deeply into the Kingston streets, and he seeks an escape to greener pastures where he can find peace, love, and a space for a better life. “Furnace” is featured on his upcoming “#ToWhatDegree” project, and has hinted that more music will be released later this month.
