Jelissa Williamson Celebrates Jamaican Heritage With Kid-Friendly Craft

To all my viewers and readers living overseas, how much do you miss being at home? We understand many migrated for financial reasons, and some desire to return living better than they lived growing up in the Caribbean. Some keep the feeling alive by visiting when they can, some attend Caribbean-themed events, some secure the family connection, while others find creative ways to make “farrin” feel like home. London-based Creative and Mother of two Jelissa Williamson a.k.a. Jelissa Marie may not have been born in Jamaica, but she makes connections to keep herself and her family close to her heritage. Recently, she used her love of being creative to celebrate her heritage that everyone can enjoy.

With “Felt Like Yard“, Jelissa Marie creates fun items that tap into her love for Jamaica. In a series of videos she shared on Social Media, she displayed Jamaican cuisine and fruits that had many doing double takes to see if the food was real. From Ackee & Saltfish, to Oxtail with Plantain and Rice and Peas, to Patty, to Guineps, to Porridge with Crackers, to Jerk Chicken, Jelissa’s hands were given a special touch to make these well-loved items from home come to life. With children in mind including her two daughters, Jelissa’s creations encourage stronger family bonds, and with the use of the Montessori Education system, boost children’s zeal for learning and creativity, and develop a love and respect for heritage. The Montessori system is an educational system designed to tap into children’s natural interests and activities rather than a formal way of learning. This includes hands-on learning, playing, developing real-world skills, emphasizing a child’s independence and eagerness to learn.

Jelissa is currently dealing with a demand for her Island creations to be made for purchase, but she is finalizing her catalogue of items, and has a waiting list available for those interested. She’s also open for collaborations. You can find Jelissa on Instagram and TikTok.

Jamaican Illustrator @Graytness Shares Augmented Reality “The Future Of Jamaica” Piece

To say Jamaica is a talented Country is an understatement. The Island boasts some of the most creative minds, with skillsets that have rivaled many the world over, and influenced generations. From Music, to Fashion, to Food, to Art, it’s never normal when it comes to Jamaicans. When it comes to Art, Jamaica has produced some very special individuals. From Cecil Baugh, to Edna Manley, to Albert Huie, to Richard Natoo, to Margaret Chin, to Taj Francis, to Bonito Thompson, the world has been treated to excellent work from individuals like them over the years.

Jevaughn Gray is another name that has been creating waves with his work. Working under the moniker “Graytness” and through his “Grayt Art” brand, he has made eye-catching pieces, and turned many into physical products for many to wear, to show off in various ways, and to admire. He has done work that has been recognized by Dream Entertainment, Red Stripe, the Afro Soca event series, the Rum Punch Brunch in Atlanta, Clarks, and Recording Artists Zamunda, Irie Souljah, Rytikal, Heavyweight Rockaz, and US Rapper Future. Recently, he announced that he will be releasing a new piece titled, “The Future Of Jamaica“, that taps into the usage of modern technology.

.@Kris_Karz Continues His Run With New Single, “Weirdity”!

In every Creative’s life, there comes a time where you get things done right, and there are times when it all comes crashing down. Regardless of the outcome, you still have to keep it pushing. When Producer Kris-Karz made the transition into a Recording Artist, he knew his journey would not be a smooth one, but he was still determined to move forward. He shares a lil on it on his new single, “Weirdity“.

“Weirdity” came at a time when Kris-Karz was considering quitting music altogether. There can be times where the creativity is not flowing, and it feels like it doesn’t make sense pursuing your craft. Kris shares some of his thoughts and experiences on the track, and it serves as the track that pushed him out of the negative space, and into the greatness that he thought was no longer existent. Let this be a testament that good things really do happen. Kris’ production on “Weirdity” is one of his best, and his distorted approach is going to hit you in a good way. We believe “Weirdity” will be making its way to plenty speakers around the world, and connecting with many other Creatives. Don’t let the obstacles gets you down, hold the faith and keep on pushing! Expect a lot more Kris-Karz content this year.

When You’re Having Doubts, @RealKvlar Brings The Motivation With “It’s YOURS”!

Today, we’re looking out for those who aren’t always on top of their game. Many creatives, despite our works, some days we lack that motivation to keep on pushing. I want to share with you a jump start from an upcoming Artist by the name of Kvlar. Titled “It’s YOURS“, the Artist urges listeners to use the lyrics as a part of a conversation you need to have with yourself. “Sometimes, life can be so hard. It’s like everything’s coming at you fast, doubts and negative feelings find a home in your mind. This song came to me at a very dark period in my life. I look at this song now, as a needed conversation to have with yourself,” shared the Singer. For those that need a boost, Kvlar provides it here. A song that is quickly becoming our favourite for the month, we encourage you to share it with a creative (See ways you can share it below). Jamaican Creative @Aurora_NG_U Hosts “Endz Off” Creative Mixer Event!

Update 1: “Endz Off” postponed until further notice!

The ability to create is such a beautiful thing, and the Island of Jamaica boasts a plethora of Creatives that help to elevate the Culture in Music, Fashion, Literature, and Art. Unfortunately, not many Creatives are being recognized as physical platforms for them to display their work are in short supply. Enter Kamoey Ng-You a.k.a. “GyalKapone“, a fellow Creative who hopes to make a change and start something new with her Creative Mixer event called, “Endz Off“! With a September 30th date and being held at Chaser’s Cafe (5 Belmont Rd., Kingston), Ng-You invites DJs, Writers, Musicians, Artists, Photographers, and Designers to attend and display their works of art to a new audience which can in turn create Business opportunities, make new connections, and growth in their careers.

When asked the reason for the event, Ng-You said, “I want to give all mediums a chance to just be comfortable in a non-competitive environment, because for young Artists in this Country, everything is a “Fight to the top”. While some competition is healthy, it’s not always the best because a lot of us suffer from issues that our Art gives us refuge from“. While the Event is free to attend and Creatives showcase their works for free, Ng-You hopes to get the attention and assistance of Corporate Jamaica, and encourages attendees to support by purchasing pieces from a Creative. “I’m trying to invite as much people to participate as possible, even if I have to pay for their work to be printed and mounted out of pocket because people need fi buss, and I’ll be damned if I don’t make that happen because I know I wish someone would help me” she added.

Creatives participating in the Mixer are requested to bring a copy of their favourite piece of work that they’re willing to part with as a giveaway session may arise during the event. “I want everyone to leave with someone else’s favorite artwork because that energy and positivity is channeled to others. Sharing the things that make you happy with someone else is one of the greatest things you could ever do and I want to promote that movement. I want everyone to have a smile on their face at the end of the day” said an exuberant Ng-You. She closed by saying, “It’s not about money, it’s not about hype, it’s not about a bagga chatting. It’s about giving everybody a platform to be themselves, be comfortable and make a future“.

The “Endz Off” Creative Mixer will start at 5PM, and ends at 8PM. To participate, contact Kamoey Ng-You at 848-2367, or send her a Direct Message on Instagram at @GyalKapone.
