V’ghn Is Mesmerized By The “Bacchanal Lady”

The Grenadian bad boy V’ghn has been blazing trails for a number of years, and he’s only getting better. With a renewed focus for the new year, he’s preparing to give the people hit after hit. It’s his season to shine, and he gets things going with the new single, “Bacchanal Lady“.

Teaming up with Producer Tano, V’ghn has his eyes on a dangerously sexy Woman in “Bacchanal Lady”. She has the looks, she oozes sexiness, and she’s scandalous, but if you treat her right, she’ll be all yours. V’ghn pelts out melodies and lyrics over some solid production as he thinks about the waistline of this desirable Woman. The track has the right ingredients for a hit, and we can expect this one to make some noise all 2025. The accompanying Visualizer finds the Singer mesmerized by her throughout, and this is just the beginning of some fun times to come. This goes out to all the sexy ladies!

OLDIES SUNDAY (Christmas): Ajamu – Ah Want A Little Something (2001)

Christmas time is upon us yet again, and we look forward to what’s in store. As usual, we have to put you on to some holiday music, and on “Oldies Sunday“, have some classics. Today’s selection comes from the Island of Grenada. We feature Recording Artist Ajamu’s track, “Ah Want A Little Something“.

Produced by Edson Mitchell a.k.a. Ajamu and released through Charlie’s Records in 2001, Ajamu gave the people another in his line of Christmas music with, “Ah Want A Little Something”. The song finds him making a couple requests for his fans. He has been known to deliver a song for the holidays yearly, and while he does it for the people, he’d love for them to give back to him for the season. He delivers musical gifts, but wishes for a gift or few himself. He kindly asks throughout the song, and hopes it won’t cause any problems after. “Ah Want A Little Something” was featured on his 2001 album, “Christmas Soca Parang“, and is one of his signature Parang hits.

STAY TUNED FOR ANOTHER CHRISTMAS CLASSIC ON “OLDIES SUNDAY”!

Get Ready To Jab Jab With Temptress’ “Crocus Bag”

SpiceMas is in the air, and the people are ready to revel in it. Grenada has always been a powerhouse for some great music, and when it comes to Carnival, they do not disappoint. Enter Temptress, the 2023 Grenada Road March winner and the Queen of Jab Jab, and she’s ready to take on the road with the video for the single, “Crocus Bag“.

Directed by Man Of Viizion and shot in La Fillette, St. Andrew, one of the hotspots for Grenadian Jab Jab culture, Temptress and her crew are blacked out, horned up, and are ready to put everything in the bag in the visual for “Crocus Bag”. Temptress brings the energy here, and makes for one of the tunes for SpiceMas 2024 that will get everyone pumped up. “Crocus Bag” was produced by Jambalasee Grenada Muzik on the “Coals Dust Riddim“. For those unfamiliar, the Jab Jab culture is a celebration of freedom from hardships that’s unique to the Island of Grenada, and dates back to the days of slavery as slaves rebelled against the Carnival celebrations by the whites and plantation owners. “Jab Jab” is French Creole for “devil“, and the costumes/make up of black oil/molasses/black paint worn depict an interpretation of the Devil, and is not to be confused with the worship of such (and we know how people are…). Get ready to put everything in the Crocus Bag when you hit the road.

Get Ready For Spicemas With @SlattaMusic’s “Carnival Flu”

Ready to wuk? Ready to have fun? It’s that time again. Grenada looks to turn it up this year at “Spicemas 2023“, so get your things ready. One thing to note however, there is something going around that’s a cause for concern. No it’s not another version of Covid, but according to Grenadian Artist Slatta, it’s a breakout of the “Carnival Flu“!

In this Palm Tree Vybez-directed video, Slatta has caught the “Carnival Flu”, and he’s happy about it. Over sounds by Xpert Productions, the Artist played Mas, and he wasn’t going to stop until he caught the flu. Spicemas will have many catching it, and that’s ok. Just make sure you have your Vitamin C, Vics Rub, Rubbing Alcohol, and Bitters handy. For better results, make sure you have a wining partner. The Carnival Flu is predicted to take over Bajan Crop Over as well, so be prepared.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Mighty Sparrow – Jean & Dinah (1956)

Closing off another “Black History Month“, today’s Oldies Sunday selection salutes another Black talent who has made an impact on the world and the music culture. Today, we check out Calypso Icon Mighty Sparrow, and go back into time to check out his track, “Jean & Dinah” a.k.a. “Yankee’s Gone“.

Arranged by Cyril Diaz And His Orchestra and released through the Kay label in 1956, this was a song that featured Mighty Sparrow shedding light on the large-scale Prostitution that American Military bases supported in Trinidad and Tobago during the post-war period, the desperation that many Prostitutes went through after the closure of said bases, and the departure of the troops. He mentions a few names other than “Jean & Dinah” (The track was also called “Jean & Diana”) who did what they had to do to make a sale, but when things got bad, their businesses had to downscale. Sparrow also mentions that Night Clubs were feeling the pinch too as they were the go to spots for Military personnel to hang out, and the meet up spot for many Prostitutes to conduct business. With Sparrow’s social commentary and well written lyrics, “Jean & Dinah” became not only his first hit, but the song lead to him becoming a winner in the 1956 Trinidad Road March competition, and wearing the crown at the 1956 Calypso King/Monarch competition. “Jean & Dinah” has become one of his most famous songs, and it helped him to bring Calypso music to various parts of the world. It was covered by American Actor Robert Mitchum in 1957 (A Gentrification move?). A true legend, Mighty Sparrow went on to become “The Calypso King Of The World“, and his influence, sound, and wit birthed generations of artists and the blending of musical styles.

THANK YOU MIGHTY SPARROW
