Kris Karz continues to put out quality content as he gears up for a full length project for 2021. With music and visuals reaching the people near and far, Kris has been putting in a lot of work, and we know he’ll reap greatly in due time. Having released the singles “HEARTBREAK” and “LOVE“, he follows up with “ENERGY“!

Featuring vocalist Timothy David on the hook and released through Kris Karz’s Kngly Studios, Karz continues his pursuit of finding someone to call his own. With a funky production supporting Kris’ smooth lyrics, we’re definitely feeling it, and we expect it to catch people off guard very soon. With a catchy vibe and production you can’t but move to, this is just another taste of what’s to come on Kris Karz’s upcoming project. A visual is on the way for “ENERGY“, so stay tuned!

The Heptones’ “Heptones Gonna Fight” Featured In New @SnowFallFX Episode

Are you a fan of TV shows? What do you get into? For some, the FX series “Snowfall” is a must-see TV show. With a story set around the beginning of the “Crack Epidemic” in 1980s LA, it has been hailed as one of the best crime dramas out. On episode 6 in season 4 of the series, a familiar Jamaican hit can heard, and it comes from the iconic, The Heptones!

During a scene featuring “Snowfall” character Khadijah, The Heptones’ 1968 release “Heptones Gonna Fight” can be heard throughout. Produced by “Sir Coxsone” Dodd for Studio One, the track was featured on the group’s “On Top” album. It has been sampled by Garnett Silk, Shy FX, and former member Leroy Sibbles. It would seem like an injustice if you have a Film or TV Show and not have some Jamaican music as the soundtrack. “Snowfall” can be seen weekly on FX on Cable, or on Hulu.

Ragz To Richez Production Aims To Become The Next Hit Factory

Jamaican Record Label Ragz To Richez Production is a young label on the rise, but has managed to connect with some of the best in the game already. Founded in 2016 by Manchester born Vannesa “Halie” Dixon, the label has provided unique sounds and produced charting singles for the likes of Vershon, Macka Diamond, Qraig (from Voicemail), Devin Di Dakta, and many others. With the year 2020 being seen as one of the label’s biggest years, it’s on the way to exceeding expectations in 2021.

2020 saw Ragz To Richez Production making all the necessary moves to become a fixture in various parts of the world. One of the releases that caught the ear of many was Ding Dong’s “Mirror”. Released in May 2020 on the “Public Figure Riddim”, the single quickly amassed thousands of plays on various digital music streaming outlets, and became one of the songs that ruled the summer thanks to being performed at events like Reggae Sumfest 2020. A music video was also made for the single, and has since scored over 800,000 views on Youtube.

Following Ding Dong’s hit for Ragz To Richez Production, Qraig, and emerging artists Intence and Kemar Highcon followed up with the singles “Outside Mi Deh”, “What’s Love”, and “Whap!” respectively. Officially released in Summer 2020, they helped to enhance Ragz To Richez Production’s profile as they became some of the year’s biggest singles. Both Qraig and Kemar’s singles scored high streaming numbers, while Intence’s video for his “What’s Love” single scored over 1 Million views on Youtube. Thanks to their various collaborations and releases, Ragz To Richez Production has been highly requested by some of Jamaica’s top artists, and praised by some of the music industry’s leading figures.

In recognition of Women’s History Month, we take the time out to feature Women who have made great contributions to our music culture. While we celebrate the Women all year over here, we recognize some through our Oldies Sunday section. Today, our selection comes from one of Jamaica’s greatest Vocalists, Gem Myers with her track, “One Man Woman“.

Produced by Fab 5 and released through Stage Records in 1986, Gem Myers makes it clear from the start that she has no time for entertaining conversations from other men, and no time for playing around as she’s a one man woman. No time for intimidation, exploitation, confusion, and the boderation, Gem can only deal with one person, and he is doing what he’s supposed to to keep her happy. In a time when people celebrate having multiple partners or playing games with people’s hearts, Gem is a woman who would be referred to as a “one burner”. “One Man Woman” was a popular single when it was released, and was the first track on her 1987 album of the same name. Since “One Man Woman”, she has went on to release more music before being a staple at various events over the years in Jamaica, the Caribbean, and parts of the world. We truly believe she’s an underrated Vocalist, and she should be celebrated more. We hope our article starts a conversation in the right direction.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Margarita – Woman Come (1964)

In recognition of Women’s History Month, we take the time out to feature Women who have made great contributions to our music culture. While we celebrate the Women all year over here, we recognize some through our Oldies Sunday section. Today, our selection comes from the late Anita Mahfood a.k.a. Margarita “The Famous Rhumba Queen” with the track, “Woman Come“.

Produced by Arthur “Duke” Reid and released through the Black Swan label in 1964, “Woman Come” (sometimes labeled “Woman A Come”) was Margarita’s “love letter” to then boyfriend Musician Don Drummond. With Rastafarian influences thanks to backing by The Skatalites, the band that Drummond was a member of and composed songs for. This was Margarita’s first release, and she was one of the first female artists to do so, and sadly her last release. Her lyricism was praised, and was arguably an inspiration for female Dancehall movement in the following decades. The song was a popular one among her growing fanbase, with hopes that she would continue releasing more. Sadly, on December 31, 1965, Margarita’s life was tragically taken at the hands of Drummond (more on that here), but she left a mark that would seal her as a legend in Jamaica. She would be later honoured at the University Of Technology, and at the Jamaica Music Museum.

Sean Paul has come a long way in his long music career. From making his rounds in the late 90s, to dominating in the 2000s and 2010s, he now looks to further seal his iconic status with more timeless music. The Jamaican King of the streams steps into the 2020s with his 7th album, “Live N Livin“.

The new album finds Sean Paul flexing his contact list as he has a heavily featured project. Let’s just call it “Sean Paul & Friends” at this point because there’s a lot of collaborations here to enjoy over and over. From Chi Ching Ching, to Squash, to Junior Gong, Jesse Royal, to Skillibeng, to Mavado, this promises to be a classic, and an album that will be in heavy rotation. Production provided by the likes of Nigel Staff, Nyann “News” Lodge, Delly Ranx, Rico Love, Troyton Music, and many others, so get ready fi tun up to this! When you find yourself liking one track, be prepared to like even more. It’s a Dutty 2021, turn up your speakers!
