Today’s Monday for many, but it’s also known as the first day of a stressful week. There aren’t many fans of Monday in the working world, and the day has gotten such a bad reputation, that there were petitions to not make it a work day. Antiguan Soca Diva Claudette Peters shares the same sentiment, but she needs herself some time off so she can get back to being the Diva she is. In her words, she needs a “Mental Day“.

Produced by ChippyG and Brukway Production, Claudette Peters is stressed out, and she shares what she’d really like to do on “Mental Day”. With the Antigua Carnival season gearing up for a hot Summer, Peters wants to dance, get on bad, and enjoy life the way she should. Work causes many to be fed up, so having time off helps to give the person a chance to recharge, and with the way how our Mental Health has been over the past few years, we all need a break. JayBlem Deals With Anxiety In “Uncontrollable Feelings”

The topic of Mental Health is a touchy matter. The month of June is recognized as “Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month“, while November is recognized as “Movember“, an annual event that involves the growth of facial hair to raise awareness of Men’s mental and physical health. Despite these events, Men are at times placed at the back when it comes to dealing with those issues. Dancehall Recording Artist JayBlem has been going through a lot, and is singing about his feelings in the video for the track, “Uncontrollable Feelings“.

Directed by Steel Mafia Films, JayBlem shares that he has a few issues in “Uncontrollable Feelings”. Dealing with Anxiety, Blem recalls the date when his life changed, and it has been a lot of ups and downs for him ever since. Some would say he should go vent to someone, others may say to get over it, but he chooses to keep to himself, and sing about his experiences. “Uncontrollable Feelings” is the first single from JayBlem’s upcoming “Rebirth” album, which is set to be released on December 3. The journey to better mental health is a difficult one and can end in a good or bad way, we just have to take it a day at a time.

Some Days May Be Rough, But @QMarsden Remains Positive For “Today”!

Q Marsden, more commonly known as “Q“, is a Florida-based Recording Artist/Musician who has been carving up quite the lane for himself in the Alternative R&B world. Like his Father, Dancehall/Reggae Producer/Musician Steven “Lenky” Marsden, Q has been blowing minds with his work, and possessing an aura that will make you want to hear more of him, even if had just a snippet. His music taps into different feelings and vibes, and on the new single, “Today“, he looks to be more positive.

In a video directed by Audrey Ellis Fox, Q lays it out for his listeners to see that he goes through things. While we all aren’t perfect, we try to make each day better than the last. Life can be confusing, the pressure is getting worsa, and the days may have us turning to vices for the numbness, but Q, like many of us, believes that better is in the near future. Lyrics aside, Q flexes with some funky production here that takes us into a different world. “Today” is one of the few releases by Q this year, and if you’re new to him, you won’t be disappointed. Dancehall has always shed a light about the struggle, and the good times that people have experienced. Many practitioners of the genre have made songs that spoke about the everyday life, and what one can expect in them. For St. Thomas based Dancehall Artist Shaqstar, he uses it to speak about pain in “Drowning“.

With a video directed by Hot Spot Studios Cinematography, Shaqstar shares his pain and sorrow. Paired with his vices, Shaqstar shares that life isn’t easy, and he is tested everyday. Depression is real out there, and Shaqstar uses the music as a form of therapy, and many listeners will be able to relate to the lyrics. “Drowning” was produced by Blueface Records on the “Silence Riddim“. Shaqstar has been busy progressing thanks to release of his “Seaforth Son” EP, and he looks to make his name bigger over the course of time. The topic of Mental Health continues to grow in Jamaica, and we hope there will be more safe spaces and platforms for those who are fighting battles mentally. Take it a day at a time.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Junior Byles – Fade Away (1976)

Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from Reggae artist Junior Byles. Titled “Fade Away” which was released in 1976 under Eagle Records, was produced by Joseph Hoo Kim and was featured on the soundtrack for the hit Jamaican film “Rockers“. “Fade Away” speaks on the way people value material wealth over their own souls, corruption, the ills of society, and preaching that they will all fade away soon. “Fade Away” was hailed as Byles’ best work and became a big hit not only in Jamaica, but in the UK where it was largely successful and covered years later by the New Age Steppers group.

Since his heyday, not much has been heard of Junior Byles. He released many more singles and albums but over the years he suffered bouts of depression after recieving many tragics news. There were times he was witnessed living on the streets and making frequent visits to hospitals. His last big performance was in Jamaica in 2004 which recieved positive reviews and led to a short tour later that year.
