Gage Calls Out Politicians On “Creed 4”

Recording Artist Gage has never been one to hold his tongue. No matter the topic of his songs, he speaks his mind, and you have to deal with it. Recently, he released the “Barcode Mixtape” with The Riddim Nation, and he had a lot to talk about. On one of the tracks, he hits where it hurts on “Creed 4“.

With The Riddim Nation handling production, Gage calls out the Jamaican Government and shifty Politicians. Looking back at the events during and after Election 2020, Gage exposes the opportunists, highlights the reality many Jamaicans are facing regardless of who is in power, and becomes the speaker of the Jamaican public for a few minutes. It’s not about who had the best campaign Dubplate or who rocked Clarks, it’s what the elected will do for the people who went out and voted for better. Many are not fazed by the gimmicks, they need real work to be done. Take a listen to Gage’s message.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Little Roy – Tribal War (1974)

It’s Election time again in Jamaica! Despite the world getting rocked back and forth thanks to the Covid 19 pandemic, Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced the dates for the Island’s 18th General Election on August 11 in Parliament. While Election time in Jamaica is usually a “Silly Season“, it was pretty different in the era of our Oldies Sunday selection. Today, we highlight Little Roy’s “Tribal War“.

Produced by Earl Lowe and released through Roy’s Tafari label in 1974, Little Roy provides some social commentary here as he speaks out against the various conflicts happening in the world especially during Election time in Jamaica in 1972. In that year, the Michael Manley led People’s National Party (PNP) emerged victorious over the Hugh Shearer (who held the position during Alexander Bustamante’s absence due to illness) led Jamaica Labour Party (JLP). Election time in Jamaica is usually met with a lot of tension, and found supporters on opposing sides attacking each other to the point where it gets violent. Little Roy’s track asked for all those acts to cease, rival gangs get together in the name of peace, and everyone promoting living in love and harmony. “Tribal War” became a very popular song for Little Roy, but despite the popularity, it never received much airplay until other versions were made years later. Regardless of the opposition, he found a lot of success with it as he sold thousands of copies of the track by hand.

Since the release of “Tribal War”, it has been covered by various artists including John Holt, Ronnie Davis, and George Nooks, and has been sampled by Nas and Tony Rebel. NEW MUSIC: @OneKacique – No Vote

With Election Day in Jamaica drawing near, Recording Artist Kacique dropped “No Vote“. Produced by SupaBad Music Group, Kacique speaks on PNP (People’s National Party) and JLP (Jamaica Labour Party) failing him over the years thus fueling his decision to not vote. He also encourages listeners to do the same and demand better for the country. While both Political Parties are currently blaring campaign songs daily to attract supporters, people like Kacique will see through all that and make a stance. What is your decision? With the recent news of a Prison to be constructed here thanks to a deal between the UK and the Jamaican Government, and with Politicians giving Jamaicans stress and oppression over the years, the question is asked, “What are we voting for?“. Today Recording Artist D-Medz speaks his mind on “No Vote“. With the help of clips from a recent Vox pop, the “Rebel Souljah” gets at Politicians who make life uneasy for the people, makes it clear that things won’t get better no matter which Political Party is voted in, and questions the value of a vote.
