When it comes to music, Blvk H3ro uses it as a medium to share stories, display abilities and talents, and bring people together. It took a lot to get him where he is now, and he still has more to do in order to fully solidify himself as a legend. His music has taken him to distant lands, but on “Runaway“, he does some reflection, and more.

Produced by King I-Vier, Blvk H3ro gets vulnerable on “Runaway”. He shares the many challenges that he has overcome, the moments of pain, the burdens that he carried all while chasing his dreams, and pursuing his passions that resulted into success later down. Even thoughout the success, he admits there are still battles that he is fighting, and it’ll make him, and anyone else want to run away from it all. Many knew of Hervin Bailey Jr. who strongly believed in his craft and made sacrifices in the pursuit, who would later become Blvk H3ro who is known in various parts of the world, with a fanbase that supports his every move. The Efe-directed music video that accompanied the single finds him in a remote location giving the viewer a passionate performance of his track. Had he fell victim to his doubts, we may not have known the Artist that he is today. The journey is never an easy one.

Last Sunday (February 25), the music world suffered another loss as Peter “Peetah” Morgan, lead Vocalist of Morgan Heritage, passed away. While many are saddened by the news, there are some of us who have to celebrate him in the best way we can. Today on “Oldies Sunday“, we celebrate Peetah’s legacy, and celebrate the group with the selection, “Tell Me How Come“.

Produced by Donovan Bennett for Don Corleon Records on the “Seasons Riddim“, Morgan Heritage’s “Tell Me How Come” was released in 2005 through VP Records. The track speaks about the many injustices that have been happening in Jamaica, and the people who are going through it are crying out for help. They highlight the persecution of Rastafarians, corruption from those in power, crime and violence in the country, the inequalities when it comes to uptown vs downtown, Artists being locked up, and they question the validity of the Motto, “Out Of Many One People” while so much wrong is happening. Peetah Morgan leads the charge on the track, and the group share strong messages that quickly connected with the listener. “Tell Me How Come” became a hit for the group, and was featured on the group’s 2005 album, “Full Circle“. A music video, which was directed by Jay Will, was made in support of the single.

Since the release of “Tell Me How Come”, Morgan Heritage went on to release more music, dealt with band members leaving for solo careers and other ventures, solidifying their status as one of Reggae biggest groups, copped a couple GRAMMY awards as well, and recently suffered the loss of Peetah Morgan, who was fighting a long battle with illness. Morgan Heritage was many hits to their name, but “Tell Me How Come” remains a favourite for many.

Protoje is at it again. For over a decade, the Artist has been providing music that connects with the listener in various ways, and has built a movement that has been growing rapidly around the world. Fresh off of his massive staging of the “Lost In Time Festival“, Protoje releases, “Legend Legend“.

Produced by The FaNaTiX, Protoje solidifies his position as an Icon in “Legend Legend”. The track is a testament of the impact he has had in his music career, and we are aware of the work it took to get there. The song also recognizes another legend, Bob Marley. Even after his death in 1981, Marley is a global Icon, and the recent release of the “Bob Marley: One Love” Film is evidence that the Gong is generational. Fun Fact: Protoje name dropped Bob Marley albums throughout “Legend Legend”. Accompanying the single, is a Music Video directed by Samo, and it finds Protoje in his element, and shares highlights of what happened at the 2023 staging of the “Lost In Time Festival”. Sizzla Kalonji Granted US Visa, Recruits New Management

For over 30 years, Jamaican Icon Sizzla Kalonji has delivered timeless songs with strong messages for the people the world over. He has greatly influenced many of his musical peers, and his contributions to the culture has placed him among legends. Parts of the world have longed for the Artist to grace them with his presence, and in the coming weeks, Sizzla will be making a return to one of them to perform, the United States. 

After a number of years of absence, Sizzla Kalonji will make the highly-anticipated return to the United States for a series of performances. The Artist’s US Work Visa was revoked well over a decade ago, but was granted a Visitor Visa in recent times. His stage presence on US soil was greatly missed however, and his return marks the end of the drought for the fans. Sizzla has been performing in various parts of the world during his absence from the U.S., and with his return, fans can expect him to make appearances at various events in the coming months, and are urged to stay tuned for announcements. As a part of the new developments for the Sizzla Kalonji brand, the Artist recently welcomed Chester Wilkins to the team, who will handle all managerial duties for the Artist. Wilkins has been in the Music Industry for a number of years, has made great contributions in Artist Development, and has provided solutions that have significantly enhanced the music business. Present and future bookings for Sizzla Kalonji will now be handled by the Harmonics Group, a European booking agency, artists management and development company. 

Sizzla Kalonji’s return to the United States is official in 2024. Announcements for upcoming performances will be made in short order on his official Media platforms.

Bob Marley and his music will always have an impact that spans generations. Thanks to the fans, there will be stories, and thanks to his family, his legacy will be carried on. Reggae Month earned a boost thanks to the release of the highly-anticipated “Bob Marley: One Love” Film, and there are people who are not only getting familiar with the legend, but are getting familiar with his family. Rohan Marley is one of his father’s ambassadors, and recently he had a conversation on the popular “Drink Champs” Podcast.

Hosted by Rapper Noreaga and DJ EFN, Rohan Marley joined the “Drink Champs” table to have a few conversations. Over a few drinks and their favourite herbs, Rohan shared the impact and legacy of his father Bob Marley, growing up with his dad, the Rastafarian faith, his endeavours as a Businessman, family life, and much more. The Marley children and grandchildren have represented in various ways, and have enjoyed success individually. OLDIES SUNDAY: Lasana Bandelé – Living In Shacks (1987)

February is recognized as “Black History Month“. The month reflects on the plights of Black people, and celebrates the achievements and innovations by them. It is also recognized as “Reggae Month“, celebrating the global impact the genre has over the past few decades, and will have for generations to come. For today’s “Oldies Sunday” selection, we highlight a musical figure who used his voice to shed light on the struggles his people faced, seeking for better ways. His name is Lasana Bandelé, and the track is called, “Living In Shacks“.

Arranged by Lasana Bandelé and Leebert “Gibby” Morrison and released through Storitela Music in 1987, “Living In Shacks” finds Bandelé doing some Social Commentary. He looks at the destitute conditions many are living in and what they have experienced for centuries,  and calling out those who can help but are caught up in vanity and corruption. Bandelé’s song came with powerful words, and at a time when Black people around the world faced great hardship. “Living In Shacks” earned its respect shortly after its release, and it connected with many around the world thanks to its lyrical content. The song was included in Bandelé’s “Storitela” album that was released in 1989. The music video for “Living In Shacks”, directed by Phase 3 and Dermot Hussey, was premiered on JBC TV (now Television Jamaica/TVJ) as a part of Lasana Bandelé’s “The Storitela” TV Special, and was aired regularly.

Since the release of “Living In Shacks”, Lasana Bandelé continued to share his powerful content over the years. From Poetry to Filmmaking, Bandelé made his voice be heard, and messages connect to many locally and Internationally.
